Saturday morning errands are one of my favourite things. And in the HEAT of summer (and yes, it is still summer and still HOT here) it is always best to get out early in order to get errands done. Which is what Nog & I attempted to do yesterday but then got waylaid by a neighbourhood scandal. Apparently someone in our very own building has been dropping their garbage from their balcony, and leaving it to lie where it may. Or so I was told. Upon further investigation – calling all tenants downstairs for an emergency meeting – it seemed that nobody was guilty. But by the time we all agreed to agree on this over an hour had passed and it was already HOT.
And so our Saturday errands (shown above) ended up something like this …
- trip to the Encarnación market for fruit, veg and fish
- purchase of a new spider plant to replace the one Nog murdered while I was away in Zahara
- trip to a “euro shop” to replace shower curtains ruined by rusty water gushing out of broken water heater
- bonus find at “euro shop” of cute baskets to hold stuff on new headboard shelves
- walk around centre – notice pretty awnings put up to create shade for pedestrians
- stroll past hippie market
- trip to El Corte Inglés supermarket – my favourite supermarket in Sevilla
- much needed COLD beer and breaded sea bass tapa
- very large sea bass (where our tapa had come from)
Got home around 2.30 and took a cool refreshing shower. And then had the rest of Saturday afternoon and evening to enjoy. Fresh tuna and calamares figured into the enjoyment.
Do you have any special weekend day routines?

Sadly, I am a lazy bum on Saturdays and that is (or has been) my “routine”.
However, I am going to have to get myself more organized and the house more ordered so that minor chores like getting a meal ready for my mother doesn’t lead to a possible homicide charge.
Today I went out and got my hair cut, shopped for a couple of shirts (bought 4) and went to Loblaws (large supermarket chain) and bought a lot of meal-replacement drinks for my Mom so that when I am out, she can manage to get something for herself. Otherwise she won’t eat. I also bought some fruit to make smoothies for her so that she will have something flavourful and nutritious .
I also bought 4 solar-powered lights for the front walk ($2.00 @) since our front light doesn’t work. They are quite pretty, though tonight a bit superfluous as the neighbours whose back doors face out front door all left their patio lights on and it is lit up like high noon out there.
I also bought another Dragon Fruit and I am hoping that this one will prove to be one of the ones with the bright pink flesh instead of white…

Nice memories, I hope. Remember that really long Sunday morning walk that ended up with us having lunch at Yebra (baby eels!) and then the LONG WALK BACK in the HEAT? Yikes.

I much prefer Saturdays to Sundays. I guess because getting out of town on a Sunday isn’t really possible for me, and staying in town is BORING AS HELL. Sunday mornings are usually spent in bed with coffee and laptop until almost noon. Then … bleh. Maybe lunch out in winter (too hot to go out midday in summer) or the cinema. If I think of it as a cosy stay-at-home day then that’s fine. But if I’m feeling restless and want to get out then I just get more restless.
Today I am staying in and making my first ever “pulled pork”. That should take most of the afternoon… then maybe an evening walk once it cools down, out in search of COLD beer.

I didn’t get out of the house much yesterday. Instead, I built a bed!
Spare room needed a custom job due to its lack of space – I must say I did an OK job.

Saturdays has become spending days lately. Dragonprincess is temporarily lodging at home and will move to a flat of her own in a few weeks.
This of course means there are a lot of practical stuff needed to be sorted out, including investing in furniture and such. Yesterday kitchen table and chairs as well as a small table for the living room was purchased.

We have our annual house inspection coming up so I have to get a lot of cleaning done between now and next Saturday. Luckily, my sister is taking Mom for the day tomorrow so I can do stuff without her asking 350 times “Can I do anything to help?…”
As much as I appreciate the offer, she isn’t any help and I know she feels so guilty because she can’t manage any of the things she used to do like loading and unloading the dishwasher. It is just easier to do things when she’s not here and since she is always here, things don’t get done.
I also have to go out and buy a paper shredder because I have so many old bank statements and other documents that need shredding that I have been storing up that I am in danger of being crushed by a falling wall of them. At least when shredded, I can put them into the composter.

Part of the reason I wanted to share the morning with some photos, Zeus. Just walking around Sevilla is a beautiful experience and makes doing errands feel extra special.
