So, had another CT scan on Monday. It actually went okay, taking a surprisingly short time to complete both the scan and then going to the chemo room to get my port flushed out. Less than an hour for both! Though of course this didn’t take into account the previous two hours of drinking the barium (aka strawberry-flavoured snot). Still, I was there and back again in no time. But now … what to do?
By chance I ran into Ricardo & Isabel (of The Team) on my way into the hospital. They were on their way home after a typically long day in the Nuclear Medicine department. I asked Ricardo when my scan results would come through and he said he should be able to get them by Friday. But do I really want to know before the weekend? Especially as Sara & Steve will be arriving here on Saturday night …
On the one hand, if it’s good news (ie, no new tumours) it would end up being something to celebrate. But if it’s bad news … well, that could seriously screw up the weekend. So maybe best to wait?
Meanwhile, Sunny continues to have health problems. Remember when he had to go to the vet’s in July? Well, his digestive problems haven’t got much better I am really quite worried. When I came back from Zahara he was noticably thinner and I’ve had him on wet food and have upped his daily dose of malt since then. But he is still only pooping every 3-4 days, which is not good (though he still has a good appetite). The vet has told me to give him a squirt of liquid paraffin every eight hours, and that if there is no improvement in a couple of days I’ll have to take him in for more testing. But you know, he’s 16 now, so I worry this might be the beginning of the end, which is an unbearable thought.
On a more positive note, things have been quite interesting lately. I’ve been offered a job (like – they’ll pay me!) to write an article for a travel website. I’ve also been asked to write a review on an e-book that takes place in Seville, and a guy who runs a website about Seville wants to meet with me about featuring Sevilla Tapas. Also, two people are interested in talking with me about doing tapas tours. Eek! And yesterday another travel writer sent me his article on Seville tapas bars to ask my opinion of it (!). All of which comes from me wasting spending time online, especially on Twitter, which is where most of these connections came from. So there, all you Twitter nay-sayers! đ
Still no students though, which makes all this social media stuff even more important as some of it might end up turning into part time work I can do from home. And it somehow feels like I’m on the right path, so I think I’ll stick to it.
Anyhow, just a little update here. How are things going with you?

So sorry to hear about Sunny. I know what it’s like to have a sick kitteh and the stress it brings.
Your writing opportunities sound great! I’m excited for you.
What’s new with me? Not much! Fall is here – woo-hoo!

Hope Sunny gets better. You do not need the additional stress!!!
As far as twitter, I am barely getting a hang on blogging. Too bad your not closer, or I could take classes from you. Sound like you have some exciting things lined up.
I have just finished my first year in Australia, and the learning curve remains high. I am thinking about looking for a book club.

All right! Work coming from unexpected sources. How cool is that!
I say wait for the CT scan report until after the weekend. It’s probably going to be all clear anyway, but you don’t need to know if it is not, you want to have fun with Sara and Steve.
Sorry about Sunny. It is one of the bad things about our cat friends. We almost always live longer than they do. Smokey recovered from his malaise, maybe Sunny will too.

Hmmm…..it almost sounded like you were complaining about too much to do there, for a second. :p
My 2-cents worth:
(1) Wait to hear the results until Monday
(2) Accept this consoling/hopeful digital hug from another cat person on the Sunny issue
((hug))

I would wait for Monday, too…
As for Sunny… Poor kitty. My niece has had ongoing poo problems with her car, Robind. She has a special (wet) diet for her. And she has to add water to the food because Robind won’t drink water.
She gets a quarter can morning and a quarter can night and an eighth of a can mid-morning and an eighth of a can mid-afternoon.
Mind you, Ronibd is very fat but her problem is that she has a huge colon which fills up and she can’t empty it. Even on the wet food, she doesn’t poo more than every couple of days.

That would be CAT, not Car…. Yeesh….

Yeah but it was funnier as car. đ
That paraffin seems to have done something, but now we have the opposite problem and poor Sunny has dire rear. If it continues today then I’ll take him back to the vet’s this evening.
He’s been doing that hover-over-the-water-bowl thing lately. Lua used to also do this when she got older. Hard to say if he’s actually drinking much. In any case, the wet food seems to agree with him more than the dry stuff. Will try adding water to it.
Nope, definitely not complaining about too much to do, Lori. Though I may not be able to do the paying writing gig after all – I don’t actually have enough personal experience to write about it with any real authority. But I’ll do some research on the topic and see what I can come up with.
And yeah, think I’ll wait till Monday to get the results. I have to go to the hospital on Monday morning anyhow, so I’ll stop in and ask The Team if they’ve seen the scan report.
Just two more sleeps and Sara & Steve will be here!

Mudhooks, your advice to add water to the wet food (duh, why didn’t I think of that?) is working out wonderfully so far. Thank you! Sunny has been very happily slurping up his “patĂŠ soup”, and even asks for more when he’s done. Oh please let this mean that he’ll be okay and just needed a change of diet to help him digest food better. *fingers crossed*

I’m glad!
I know that one vet put poor Robind on mineral oil and when the vet who is probably the best vet in Ottawa found out he was really angry… Absolutely the wrong treatment. My niece finally found a young vet wanting tobuild up her practice who was able to give her free advice and take Robind on at a rate that my niece and her beau could afford on their part-tine salaries. Robind is doing amazingly well.
Before they found this vet, they were having to resort to “manual” removal of the backups which was hard on both cat and the person doing the removal.

Yeah, I think that the paraffin treatment was kind of rough on poor Sunny. He still has diarrhea (since yesterday evening) and about an hour ago he also threw up. Not sure if that was also because of the treatment or just that he’s been slurping up “patĂŠ soup” like crazy, but if he throws up again in the morning I’ll have to take him back to the vet’s.
I hate this. đŚ

Talking of cat food, is it wierd to have a misty eyed moment in the pet shop because you’ve just bought your cats their very first bag of grown-up big-boy food? They’re not my baby kittehs any more… :sniff:

… and they’ll probably be twice as big by the time you get home.
I can’t wait for you guys to get here! Have already picked out tonight’s tapas bar. I think it’s a new one for you, and in less than twelve hours we’ll all be there together. Yay! đ
