I’ve been busy working on my revamped azahar-sevilla main page, which will soon (I hope) become a comprehensive and useful Seville info page. Hence I have moved the Sevilla blog over here, and by doing so have also started posting more day-to-day stuff there. Anyhow, most of the work I’ve been doing is still “behind the scenes” and unpublished, and includes a lot of first-hand research visiting places with my trusty camera. So yesterday morning Nog & I took a walk over to the Feria Market, which I hadn’t been to in years, and we had a very nice time. It’s actually Seville’s oldest market and although it was tempting to get some very inexpensive fish we decided to stick to vegetables as we still had lots of errands to run and didn’t think the fish would survive long in the 45º HEAT.
And of course there were tapas involved…
La Cantina is a small bar attached to the market that serves up the most amazing fresh fish and seafood dishes. There is a tiny bar area and quite a nice terrace that incorporates an old church wall. We’d just meant to stop for a quick beer and share a tapa, but everything looked so good that we ended up having lunch, with these four tapas (and four beers) costing us a whopping 6.50€ each.
So I not only got photos for the market section of azahar-sevilla, I also have material to write a blog post about the market and also put up a new tapas bar page on Sevilla Tapas. Plus I sent “live tapas” pics during lunch, which get posted directly to my Sevilla Tapas twitter and facebook pages. Not bad for a few hour’s work.

Wow. We at the Havens are jealous. Nowhere in our fair city can a lunch as beautiful, obviously tasty and including beers (!), for what amounts to $17.00 US.

We just came back from the local farmer’s market and I’m envious. But we did buy two varieties of potato to make tortilla with your recipe.

Just saw the pics – impressive! What kind of potatoes did you get? Did you use a different type for each one? I was told by chef José that floury ones were best for tortillas, but I tend to buy any old kind.

The farmers market had a tray of potatoes at so much a pound and we got half red and half white, but variety was not specified.
I’m looking to do it with some of the real quirky heirloom potatoes that you see around here now and then. Our farmers markets are pleasantly poncey.

I still believe that the only thing people do in Seville is eating – plenty, good and often… 🙂

They also gave me a little shopping back pack. 🙂
