Thought I’d share a cosy moment that happened this afternoon. Wish they could always get along so well, but I think the fact that it’s 12º in the apartment has something to do with the boys snuggling up like this under the sofa cover.
And the fact that I’m freezing and there’s practically a gale force wind coming in through the cracks in the balcony doors makes me think that today’s phone call from my schizoid landlord wasn’t such bad news after all. Yes, he has changed his mind – again – about renewing my contract, even though just two weeks ago he’d told me there’d be no problem giving me a new one … aargh.
So much for flipping a coin about Christmas in London, as I will now have to save every penny to move in February, plus I’ll need be here to look. I mean, I haven’t stopped looking around since I was first given notice, and I have ads of my own placed, but I liked having the option of staying if nothing better turned up. It really irks that this is happening, and it worries me too in case I get bad news in January and have to go back on chemo, or have another operation. On the other hand, having an apartment with double-glazed windows and heating/air-conditioning would be nice…
Lovely shot, Az.
Sorry you are being jerked around by your landlord. That sucks big time. I hope you find a great place, though.
I keep my place at 12C! Well, most of the time, anyway. I got my gas bill last week and OMG…I pretty much have to keep it that cold in order to afford any heat at all. I feel your pain, though. I’ve had to put plastic up to cut down on drafts.

Your landlord sounds like a muppet. One the plus side, 12º is practically tropical – we had minus 18 last week. Heating the flat to that temperature would have cost me the value of a small Renoir…

It sounds like you are well rid of this guy and I am going to do some sympathetic magic hoping you will find a comfy place with a sane landlord.

We are snowed in here at the moment, with sub-zero temperatures outside ( but thankfully not inside ). We had a government grant to insulate the walls & add more in the loft earlier in the year, only having to pay a contribution of £99 ourselves, & we have certainly noticed a big difference with the onset of all this bitterly cold weather. Sorry to hear you are struggling to keep warm.

To me 12º is way too cold inside the house. Plus it’s draughty as hell in here. So we put on a couple of space heaters in the livingroom and wear several layers (I also need a scarf). And in spite of all that the electricity bills in winter are crazy.
I hate being cold…
And I think I’m also going to hate moving. But at least I won’t have to paint this spring.
It’s so sad though, and I keep thinking of all the things I’m going to miss not living in my street anymore. It really means a lot to me, living here, in this place.

brrr, I’m with Sled on this. The universe is pointing you to a new home. You will find a place that doesn’t seem so fabulous in the beginning but will become so as you spread your taste and vibe all over it.

Having a nice apartment should also include not freezing to death in your apartment and facing a landlord who changes his mind on a weekly basis.
I don’t suppose that the fact that he led you to believe that he had a change of heart, costing you some much-needed search time. Basically, he gave you reasonable notice and then denied you that reasonable notice.
