So I went out for a few groceries this evening and ended up with a new TV! And lucky I have this blog because I was wondering when I bought the last one and a quick search told me it was in May 2008. There’s not anything particularly wrong with the old one, and this one isn’t much bigger (40″ instead of 32″) but it has WiFi and other snazzy features. I’m still not 100 percent sure what tricks this one does and will have to wait until Thursday to find out. Does any of this make sense to you?

Well, among other things I think what some of that is saying is that the television can resolve an image with a low pixel count so that it looks hi-def and perfect instead of like a jigsaw puzzle. So, someone’s dinky phone video for example. I only get that because I had to stand in line next to a TV display to get my new glasses.
I still don’t want a television in my house. Phobic from years of living around people who turned it on “for company” on every floor, and my parents being friends with a couple who would come over to “visit” and the husband would without even a by your leave turn on the TV and plunk down in front of it. I learned to hate the things, and a dreary parade of drug commercials on the ones hanging up in the gym hasn’t helped.

TVs are tools. You can use them any way you like, so I’ve never really understood “anti-tv” people. I’m actually thrilled to be able to watch YouTube vids on a big screen (and I think that 4K upscaler helps). With a SmartTV you could just watch the same things you are now enjoying on your computer, except more comfortably. No need to turn on any channels you find obnoxious.

Well, I haven’t had the control of a television for 26 years, so I’m not acquainted with the kind that do exactly what you want. And in public I keep seeing these disgusting ads and brain-dead newscasts/variety shows that ramble by overhead in the gym. The tool standard in television happened while I was doing something else. I think just a large screen on which I could play what I liked would be ideal.
