This one hit hard. We have lost so many of our wonderful traditional bars and restaurants in recent years but I only heard about Modesto closing today on their Instagram, and only after the fact (they shut for good last Saturday) so there was no time to stop by one more time to say goodbye. There’s no closure. And the especially frustrating thing is that I had actually planned to go for lunch there last week but then changed plans, mostly due to mobility issues (I can’t just walk there anymore). Damn damn damn. Now they’re just gone.

Ouch.
So many places have closed in what used to be my kinda sleepy (even if it’s right outside the capital city) hometown. Interesting, unique, irreplaceable businesses of all kinds, supplanted usually by some miserable chain restaurant or retailer. Or some new place pops up that looks promising and shutters within a year because they can’t generate the rents that will supposedly “support the local economy.” Sigh.

Same story everywhere. I just wish I’d have made more effort to get on the bus to go there last week.
