Across the street from the rental bike station.

It was another scorcher today. The original plan had been to get up early and go out in the morning while it was still coolish. And well, although I was up early to feed the cats at 7, after checking blogs, email and twitter, I went back to bed around 8.45. To my surprise I actually fell asleep again until about 10.30, which felt great. So after having coffee and catching up on my Scrabble games it was well after noon before Nog and I went out for a bike ride.

Needing a destination – and since Nog wanted to take me out for my weekly tapa treat – we decided to go on a hunt for a curious little restaurant/bar we had come across on one of our Sunday walks a few months ago. The only thing we remembered about it was that it was near the Alameda and it was called Cruji Pollo (Crispy Chicken). After parking the rental bikes in the general area and walking down several little side streets we finally found it. . .

discovering the cosmos

I’m coming to the end of my chemo-free week off the meds. My plan had been to do something special every day and make the most of it. And now here it is Saturday and it’s hard to remember anything I’ve done that was special in itself. But today while I was walking around with Peter drinking an icy cold granizado de limón I realised that just being able to do that was the special thing, just like how last night we went out for a scoop of Häagan Dazs ice cream (at the new HD shop that has recently opened just five minutes from my house). When I think about how next week it’ll be back to drinking 40º room temperature water I am sooooo enjoying every icy cold minute I can.

And so tonight I’m making frozen cosmopolitans . . . 🙂

A new discovery – Tre Fratelli

I meant to go back to bed after the cats got me up way too early this morning (and after playing a few rounds of email Scrabble with alejna) but in the end I just read a bit and then Nog & I went out for an nice morning walk. My main objective, other than getting some exercise, was to take more photos of azulejos – you can see the ones I found today over here.

While we were out I spotted a new (well, new to me) Italian restaurant and noticed that it also had a list of tapas on a chalkboard outside. Italian tapas? It sounded almost too good to be true. And so after we’d finished our walk and had done a few chores at home, Nog invited me out for an Italian tapa lunch.

This time there was no overly generous soul bringing us extra drinks and another plate of food after we were already full. Though I did have a very nice glass of red wine. And we shared four tapas. And it was perfect. See for yourself . . .

… and also of friends, is a wonderful thing.

That’s José and Isaac up there. My two ‘main guys’ over at one of my favourite tapa bars, Enrique Becerra. Blog buddy nursemyra will remember it as the place Peter & I took her on her first night in Sevilla back in June, which was the first time I’d been back there since the op. I also took Kristin there for lunch during her surprise visit a few weeks ago, at which time I told José about the cancer situation. Mostly to explain why I hadn’t been around much since May and also (since they close for the month of August) in case I didn’t end up seeing him again until sometime in November. Then we talked about his upcoming holidays, which will be spent at home saving money for the arrival of his first child in October (a girl, already named Julia). And when Kristin, who was treating me to lunch, asked for the bill I noticed it was considerably smaller than it should have been …

Nog, nursemyra and I accidently had lunch at Yebra yesterday. We’d just meant to go for a nice long Sunday walk but after a COLD BEER pitstop we decided we were hungry (and Yebra was just around the corner). Had some lovely pork loin in sherry sauce with pinenuts and cinnamon, then tried the grilled hake with langostines and baby eels. Mmmm. . .
