I know, I know… there’s rent to pay and cats to feed and I’ve been unemployed since March with no end to that in sight. But a girl can dream, can’t she? OMG that camera *swoon*…

The iPhone 11 is coming out this week and I am weak with desire. Check out that camera! I’ll take the silver Pro please, 256 GBs. 🙂

So after my accidental upgrade a couple of weeks ago, after Sterling had been acting up and I bought El Boquerón on sale as “insurance” (but then ended up keeping him), I was feeling quite chuffed. Because I had been assured that with Boquerón (aka HP ENVY-17-bw0001ns) I was getting the “latest generation” jazz, including not only 1 Tetra of HD memory, but also 128 GB of SSD memory, GUARANTEED to make my system run faster. So like wow, okay, sign me up (even though I had only a small idea of what SSD was).
And when I first got Boquerón up and running, this proved to be the case. Everything was zippity-do-dahing along like crazy, which was great. Though it was a bit faffy setting up and uploading my gazillion photos to the D-drive (HDD) to keep the C-drive (SSD) unencumbered. And I thought I had been doing things right… until I was told yesterday that my SSD had next to no space left and I had to do SOMETHING about it.
And I have tried. But it would help if I knew what I was supposed to be doing. I have all my downloaded programmes and (of course) my gazillion photos stored on the HDD. And even after eliminating superfluous files and programmes from my C-drive, I still only have about 5 GB of free space on my SSD. WTF? HELP?

Not the way I thought Friday was going to turn out. And nope, this isn’t mine. Got a message from Peter in the morning saying that his laptop (the venerable Greyhound that he inherited from me a few years ago) seemed to have died. So he brought the beast over and we tried to resuscitate, but to no avail. And so there was nothing left to do but go shopping!
Luckily the summer sales are on now and so, after a bit of comparison shopping at FNAC and Corte Inglés, Peter settled on this guy and we spent the afternoon/evening at my place getting it set up. As nothing was retrievable from the Greyhound it meant starting from scratch, and losing some photos, but Peter doesn’t have as much crap on his computer as I do, so it was relatively easy. And fun! I love doing this stuff (and Peter doesn’t) and even after he left I stayed up doing a bit more fine-tuning. Now it’s all ready for Peter to take home.
Checking back, I got the Greyhound in July 2012, and my present laptop Sterling in September 2015. So I hope there are still a few good years left for Sterling. How long do your laptops usually last? Also, what can I do with the old dead ones?

I don’t know what took so long for me to do this, but today I finally activated the Face Recognition thingy on my iPhoneX. And hey, it’s great! Doesn’t work so well in low light, but then the number pad comes up for me to put in my passcode. The rest of the time I just look at my phone and it comes to life! I feel all powerful. 😉
With my previous iPhone6S I couldn’t use the fingerprint option because, well, I have no fingerprints. And because using the passcode all the time is a pain, I just never used one. But now I do! And so my phone is safer and I get to feel all powerful. Win-win.
