cold snap!

cold-snap

It’s been really cold this week. Almost as cold as it ever gets here during winter. Which might not seem that cold to some of you, but bear in mind that there is very little temperature difference between inside and outside casa az. Also, the living room heater (which is just like this bedroom one) has gone wonky and will now only work if it’s taken off the wall and placed upside down on the dining table. Go figure.

And so I am writing this from bed, wearing a t-shirt and a sweatshirt, a cardie over those and a scarf … the duvet (sweatpants and socks on under that) comes up to mid-chest, and the heater is on. But while most of me is feeling warm enough my hands are freezing, so I think I’m going to have to invest in some wooly gloves and cut the fingertips off.

Can’t imagine how I’m going to do chemo in January as the side effects include not being able to even touch anything cold (because it hurts like hell). Ah well, one day at a time…

Friday looks like it might be a nice day to go out. Pipocas and I have a date to go and see some Rodin sculptures in the Plaza Nueva around midday if I’m feeling up to a walk. She just sent me an email saying “It can’t stay this way, can it?” (referring to the cold). I sure hope not, especially with that possible long weekend in Málaga coming up…

How about you guys – are you keeping warm?

“Ankh-Morpork did not have many hospitals. All the Guilds maintained their own sanitariums, and there were a few public ones run by the odder religious organizations, like the Balancing Monks, but by and large medical assistance was non-existent and people had to die inefficiently, without the aid of doctors.”

– Terry Pratchett [Guards! Guards!]

no-place-like-home

I am so happy to be home again. Been back for about three hours. Have showered and ‘washed the hospital off me’ and am in my pj’s feeling totally exhausted. But it’s a good kind of exhausted, you know? But I almost didn’t make it home today …

hanging-out

Well, it’s a beautiful morning here … watched the sun come up about an hour ago, all apricot coloured on the horizon. Nog’s gone to the cafeteria to have brekky and then he’ll head home to shower, snibble the boys and probably make a few sandwiches for today. Although my op is scheduled for 3 o’clock it could really happen anytime after 11, so Nog wants to get back here by then.

The Team should be here soon for a quick visit (mostly to reassure me – they know how nervous I get). Then I’ll shower while my bedsheets are changed and after that just hang out, waiting for THEM to come and get me.

Hope I’ll be back soon. Or even just back (eep!) …

You’re probably getting a bit tired of sending best wishes, etc, so random chat would be just fine.
What are you guys up to today? 🙂

waiting

So there’s not much to do but wait.

Nog left awhile ago to go home and shower, snibble the cats and make some sandwiches for later – he should be back in a couple of hours. My roommate María went off to have her operation done about an hour ago. I sure hope we both end up back in the same room after we’re done as we really are a hospital match made in heaven. I heard her talking to someone on her mobile last night, saying how lucky she was to have me as a roommate. She’s happy with her iPod and book and, thanks to Pipocas, I have internet here so I can happily while away the hours online or reading.

I’m feeling a lot more relaxed today, possibly due to having slept very well.  I should get the name of the sleeping pills they gave us last night. María was already asleep when the nurse came and so he had to wake her up so she could take her sleeping pill (duh). Anyhow, I woke up feeling very well rested and saw Nog, who was still fast asleep in the reclining chair beside me.

The Team came to visit me first thing this morning and said that, as I’m up second, this could happen any time after 11am, even though I’m scheduled for 3pm. The sooner the better. I don’t mind not being able to eat (last meal was lunch yesterday) but I also can’t drink any water, which is hard for me. I usually drink 2-3 litres a day. Also, the smell of coffee wafting in from the food trolley is making me drool. Ah well…

Time for some scrabble, I think.

It’s very nice knowing you guys are out there, wishing me well. 🙂
