Just wanted to say thanks again to those of you who are continuing to send donations. As I am still struggling to find enough work, this has really been helping me out and is very much appreciated.
Also thanks to everyone who continues to visit here and keep me company, which provides much needed emotional support that really makes my day and helps me keep going.

… things suddenly seem to be going quite well.
Okay, maybe not everything, and maybe not as much as I might have hoped … but I’m really feeling good about things today. Have been following my heart of late and am amazed (though I shouldn’t be) at how much better life is when I do so…

It was just over a year ago that I was told my cancer had become inoperable, that they could give me chemo to slow down the inevitable, and that without treatment I had maybe a year to live. I later found out that this idiot oncologist hadn’t even read my biopsy results, she had just assumed (as the surgeons had done) that the “buckshot” mess found on my peritoneum during my second operation was cancer – it turned out to be old scar tissue. Anyhow, this is one of the many reasons she is now my ex-oncologist.
Since then I have had another recurrence, have gone through chemo again (April-July) and am now living on a “wait & watch” basis, with scans being done every three months…

So there I was yesterday morning … had just finished my FIRST NEW CLASS with a very charming friend of Agustín’s, and was working on my friend Lizzie’s new Twitter page for her fabulous Folk House Cafe & Bar in Bristol, when the doorbell rang and the postman said he had a package for me. I had no idea what it might be and was really taken by surprise when I saw it was from one of my oldest & dearest friends from Toronto, Darlene – and also her beautiful daughter Adrienne. So I opened it up and saw it was a whole whack of small blue-ribboned prezzies wrapped in yellow tissue paper, with good old Halloween kisses used for filler. It was hard not to cry, so I did. But you know, happy tears. I’d talked with Darlene on Skype during the summer, and just this week was thinking that I should send her a quick email so she’d know I was still thinking about her – and it turned out she’d also been thinking about me! The other day my friend Gaelen wrote a very thoughtful blog post called The Reluctant (Cancer) Warrior, and asked at the end of it…
Do you like the battle metaphors for cancer, the idea of being a cancer warrior? Do you see living with cancer as a war? What is the cancer metaphor that works for you?
And it came to me that the metaphor that works best for me is the Sword of Damocles. Just hanging there, you know? And you never know when it’s going to fall and take your life away…
