Had a lovely time last night.

Nog and I had planned to go out for some tapas at one of our usual haunts but then decided to do something we’d never tried before, which was go to our favourite birthday/anniversary place Casa Robles and have a lightish meal at the bar (instead of the usual feast ). Just after we’d ordered a couple came in and sat down next to us and I heard the woman ask for a menu in English. The barman told her they only had Spanish ones and so I whispered to Nog, asking if it might seem too ‘pushy’ if I offered to help them translate the menu. He said he thought they would probably appreciate it.

And so we met Jan and Larry, a lovely couple visiting from Texas, and spent the rest of the evening chatting with them over a few glasses of wine and some gorgeous food. And we talked about other chance encounters and serendipitous experiences we’d had, in the end deciding that fate had brought us together – though Nog remained his usual sceptical self, saying that whether something is fate or not can only be decided after the event. 🙄

Anyhow, a wave to J & L in case you read this (I suggested they check out the Sevilla tapas page for future meals while they’re here). It’s turned out to be a very rainy day so I hope you manage to keep dry. And thanks again for such a nice evening.

Aren’t chance encounters great?
What are some of yours?

It was a year ago today that casa az was born.

Previously my only experience with online forums and journals was on h2g2 , started by Douglas Adams and now run by the BBC. And perhaps if they hadn’t had a total ‘blackout’ on hootoo for about two days around the beginning of last May I wouldn’t have looked elsewhere. But I’d seen other friends starting up blogs and because I was already using WordPress as the content manager for my online clothing store I decided to go with them. Another bit of serendipity as all other blogsites I’ve tried out since (just out of curiosity) have shown themselves to be a lot less user friendly.

And so one year, 275 posts and almost 40,000 peeks later I am very happy that things turned out the way they did because my time here has been very special… interesting, enjoyable, at times thought-provoking & challenging, and with the extra added bonus of having met some fabulous new friends. I’m also very happy that several of my old h2g2 pals, and also some of my RL friends, have chosen to come and visit me here.

So thanks for having made this such a wonderful year
and I hope we’ll share many more together!

toilet-paper.jpg Crow calls for limit on loo paper

In my opinion it’s ‘celebrity environmentalists’ like this who give a bad name to the whole global environmental movement that is seriously trying to make things better.

By making such an idiotic public statement and suggesting that this is a way to help us ‘save the planet’ only serves to possibly make others who have dedicated their lives to the preservation of our environment look like cranks.

Crow has also commented on her website about how she thinks paper napkins “represent the height of wastefulness”.

Which again only shows how uninformed this person is. Paper napkins are the height of wastefulness??? What fucking planet is she living on? One where she is always served with the finest of linen napkins I suppose.

The 45-year-old, who made the comments on her website, has just toured the US on a biodiesel-powered bus to raise awareness about climate change.

And no mention of the many flights she’s taken on both private and public jets to promote her music career? How, um … hypocritical?

I am very concerned about the environment and do as much as I feel I can by recycling as much as possible. But using one square of toilet paper per bathroom visit? How is that even practical? I’d just end up having to use the bidet more often and waste water.

Presumably Ms Crow neither menstruates nor ever gets the trots, and also has the ability to always pee straight down every time without ever splashing … gee, lucky her.   🙄

… in 10 easy steps

History shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. According to Naomi Wolf in this morning’s Grauniad, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all :

  1. Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy
  2. Create a gulag
  3. Develop a thug caste
  4. Set up an internal surveillance system
  5. Harass citizens’ groups
  6. Engage in arbitrary detention and release
  7. Target key individuals
  8. Control the press
  9. Dissent equals treason
  10. Suspend the rule of law
  11. Continue reading →

The Most Hated Family in America

They call themselves the most hated family in the US and they picket funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq. The Phelps family pickets mourners across the country, to mark what it describes as God’s revenge on the US for tolerating homosexuality.

Buncha self-righteous sick fucks thinking they are above everyone else because they have God’s ear? I know it’s not polite to spit in public but I really can’t help it when I read about such extreme religious lunatics as this bunch.

If they switched ‘homosexual’ to ‘black’ or ‘Jew’, how far do you think they’d be tolerated? f_cross.gif

And now they are planning to picket the funerals of the Virginia Tech massacre victims . . . unfuckingbelievable.
