A short & sweet visit with Victor today, a quick beer, a couple of tapas…
and then he was gone again.
BUT we are making plans for the next Málaga Getaway this summer! 🙂

Last week when I was invited to the press conference at the Alcázar to announce this year’s Michelin Gala in Sevilla, I decided to spend a bit of time wandering around after the event finished. I mean, we were already inside! Thing is, although I have free entrance to this amazing place anytime, since I am a resident of Sevilla, it’s almost impossible to get in.
And so, I checked out a few of my favourite spots, including the peacefully beautiful baños de Doña Padilla. Of course what you can’t see in this photo is the bus-load of teenaged French students behind me, and various groups of other tourists, all clamouring for this very same “peaceful” shot. I beat them to it.
Poor Sevilla. I fear she is going to turn into Venice.

It’s been awhile since I had percebes (aka gooseneck barnacles). These creatures are caught off the coast of Galicia, often in dangerous conditions, and they are not cheap. In fact, you seldom see them in restaurants here, let alone tapas bars. So when I saw some on display at Cafetería Donald, and when I found out that Ania @writtenfromseville had never tried them… well, it was a date.

Percebes are simply boiled in salt water (sea water for preference) and you eat them by holding them by the “claw” end and then give the longer end a twist and pull, exposing the meat. At this point you might be squirted with escaping sea water, but no problem. They taste of the sea and have a tender-chewy texture. Really good.

I thought after my day out to Feria on Monday that was going to be IT for me this year, but I somehow ended up back there yesterday. Bit of a wander round, took some photos, and then home again. But that’s really IT now. Until next year.

I was invited to a reception at the City Hall caseta on Monday afternoon, so off I went. Along with about 8 million other people. That tent was PACKED. We stayed for a drink and a snack but then had to get out of there. Between the crush of people and the heat it was just too much.
After that we stopped in at another municipal caseta (almost all the casetas at this fair are private) and somehow scored a table (!) close to the front of the stage (!!) and it was wonderful. Anyone can get up and dance Sevillanas on the stage and to everyone’s delight this fabulous gentleman – the one in the cap with the castanets – was up there every chance he could get.
Bear in mind that Sevillanas are usually danced with a man and woman, as the steps are different for each. But this guy didn’t care if his dance partner was male or female, and in this case, even two guys at once. They were all having a great time, as you can see. Made my day! 🙂
