cold, sevilla, spain, weather

This is really about the coldest it gets here and… it’s now! I know I have a pair of gloves SOMEWHERE but can’t imagine where I might have stored them. Walking with crutches obviously means I can’t put my hands in my pockets and so… damn they get cold. The other day I hobbled into Taberna Manolo Cateca and when Manolo took my hands (like he does) he said… my god it’s like you just rode in on a Vespa. Yep.

cold, flu, health

RxI hate taking antibiotics. Probably the last time I did was after that last freak operation – can’t really argue in that situation. So last week when I was hit with cold-flu symptoms (again!) I wasn’t concerned and only started taking Ibuprofen when a couple of days later it turned into a very painful ear thing. Which got worse, and then worse.  And then I lost my voice! This didn’t stop me from doing two tapas tours, though Peter came along to help “translate”. In retrospect, this probably wasn’t a good idea as I think this made me sicker and I spent the rest of the weekend in bed.

Then today I finally gave in. The clincher was when I woke up this morning with my right eye glued shut with oozy gack and my ears still blocked, hurting and ringing. So I called Dr Agustín and he gave me some drops for the eyes, a three-day course of antibiotics and more Ibuprofen. Which I hope works fast because I actually have TWO tapas tours tomorrow – morning and evening. Tonight Peter’s taking out a Flamenco & Tapas tour that came through an agency. I just couldn’t do it.

I can’t figure out how or why I got so sick. I’ve already had flu once this year, though this is clearly an ear/sinus infection that got carried away. It’s getting more than annoying and I can’t smell or taste anything. But mostly I just hope I’m well enough to properly do my tours tomorrw. Off to bed (again) soon…

wet feet

cold, rain, weather

Here I sit all sniffly. Have foregone my pilates class this morning because I didn’t think going out into The Rain with already wet sneakers would do my shivery self any good, nor would my head take very kindly to hanging upside down with its current plugged-yet-drippy sinus condition. So damn. I probably should have got some cheap rain boots last October. Getting two colds in one winter is pretty much unheard of around here. I blame wet feet.

Keeping my feet dry has become an ISSUE. It’s bad enough having the clothesrack almost constantly set up in the livingroom, but once shoes get soaked it’s very hard to dry them out properly when the humidity is stuck at 100%. My only other pair of wearable shoes (an old favourite pair of Campers) have cracks in the soles, which cannot be seen but which let the rain seep in quite nicely. I didn’t want to invest in a new pair of shoes this year in case it was MY LAST WINTER, and now sandal weather should be back by the end of the month. So nothing really left to do about it but complain.  😉

Rain, rain, go away …

cat cold

… well, I hope that it’s “just a cold”.

I went to bed for a siesta yesterday afternoon, feeling fine, and woke up 40 minutes later with a tightness in my chest and achy arms and legs. Damn. It got progressively worse throughout the evening, but I got through my two evening classes okay and then curled up with some hot tea. I think I mentioned earlier that I only had three classes this week because one of my students – a doctor – is away doing some volunteer work in Nicaragua. And it turned out that all three classes were yesterday (wish every day were like that Monday-Thursday!), which means I can do the stay in bed and drink plenty of fluids thing today.

Ah well, looking on the bright side, I usually get my annual cold around Christmas time, so this way I can get it over with and shouldn’t get another one for the rest of the winter.  I’m planning on getting some reading done but, as I’ll be stuck indoors all day, don’t be surprised if I Skype you…
