my first pedi!

feet, pedicures, sandal weather

So it was almost two months ago that I talked about getting a professional pedicure, but then I bought the foot sander gizmo and thought that would be good enough. Also, I wasn’t sure where to go. Then yesterday evening I was out for a walk and remembered that when Elaine was here last year she mentioned having had a wonderful pedi at El Corte Inglés. So I headed over there and as luck would have it, there was one spare appointment open. And it was great.

Gotta admit that with the foot sander I am taking better care of my heels, but cuticles, etc were still a mess. Not a problem! They use an eensy little sander on those (and it didn’t hurt a bit Ann!). The best part was the massage before putting on about a centimetre thick whack of nail stuff. She even painted on fake toenails on my baby toes (which basically have no nails) which I thought was a nice touch. I could see myself getting a bit addicted to pedis, but they’re a bit expensive, so I might wait and have just one more late summer, since I wear sandals until the end of October here. Also… new sandals!

feet, pedicure

While still on the lookout for a recommended place in Sevilla to get a professional pedicure I came across this baby on sale (30% off!) so I decided what the heck. Tried it last night and, although still a ways to go before my heels are “velvet smooth” (you’re not supposed to sand off too much at one time), it does seem to be doing the job. Anyone else have one of these?

barefootingHAPPY FEET

One of the many joys of living in Sevilla is that I get to wear sandals 8 months of the year. Which means I still have to wear shoes for 4 months, each day of which makes me feel somehow TRAPPED, especially when I also have to wear tights (socks are bad enough). My toes were meant to wriggle around free, so of course the first thing I do when I get home is kick off my footwear and go barefootin’.

Well, okay, in summer I also give my feet a nice cool wash after being outside in HOT SANDAL WEATHER. And in winter I need to wear slippers to keep my feet warm, but always opt for the soft “fluffy sock” kind of slipper, rather than the ones that are basically shoes with hard soles. In short, whatever is or feels closest to being barefoot is when I feel the most comfortable and my feet are happiest.

And so today, while taking a nice long afternoon break to watch a film (hols at home!) I was struck by a couple of scenes with people at home WEARING SHOES and it occurred to me that this is always happening in films and television programmes. People wearing shoes at home. Like, while they’re cooking or relaxing… today it was a guy lounging on the sofa reading the newspaper and WEARING SHOES. I mean seriously, do people in real life actually do this?

While I was in the throws of The Torcal Incident a couple of weeks ago, Victor asked me if I wore shoes at home or went barefoot. Perhaps he was just trying to take my mind off possibly having to be airlifted out of the place with two broken ankles, but he said that he’d heard that older people (presumably ME) had way better balance if they didn’t wear shoes at home. And again I thought “who the hell wears shoes at home?”

So I ask you… do you wear shoes at home? And if so… WHY?

feet, mephistos, sandals, summer

mephisto-anemoneYes, I do tend to talk about my feet a lot during the “footwear change” seasons of spring and autumn, but it’s always a challenge for me to find shoes and sandals I like that fit. You may recall that I solved last year’s sandal dilemma of only ugly Mephistos being available in the shops here by ordering this pair online, which was a surprising success considering my very hard-to-fit feet. So this year I am trying my luck again with these happy red ones.

Quite looking forward to their arrival.

Hope they fit!

Ever since I ordered these new Mephistos online I’ve been looking forward to their arrival with a mixture of excitement and dread in case they didn’t fit. Well, they were just delivered to my door a few minutes ago and they are perfect! As always, just a bit snug and will have to be worn awhile to break them in, but they are made of lovely soft suede so I don’t expect to have too many blisters.

Wish I’d had them while I was in Granada last week as it was a bit embarrassing to go to my posh tapas tasting at the fabulous Palacio de los Patos wearing my old shredded Mephistos, but hopefully nobody noticed.

So I am as happy as a kid with new shoes (como una niña con zapatos nuevos)! 🙂
