Lest you all think all this new-found fame is going to my head, I just wanted you to know that after a long day of glamourous meetings and interviews, being wined and dined, and otherwise being made a huge fuss over, I still have my sox life to contend with.
Weird thing about sox. Even though I only ever do my laundry at home and there is nowhere for errant sox to go missing, they still go missing.
The other thing is that, although I only ever have two types of sox – shorty sports sox that just go up to the ankle and somewhat taller everyday sox – they are a total bugger to pair up. Because each year I get a new 6-pack of each and they are always slightly different except that THEY ARE ALL BLACK.
I sometimes think I’ll go blind trying not to pair up this year’s sox with older ones. Especially when I’ve done a whack of laundry and end up with THIS.
I can’t wait to get back to wearing sandals…

The winter and summer sales are the best times (and for me the only times) to get new sheets and towels. Since the arrival of The New Bed last October I’ve been using the old king-size sheets which are 1) really old and 2) way too big, so today I decided to splash out on some new ones. In the past I’ve gone for simple cotton sheets that I’d jazz up with some embroidered trim but this time these 330 thread Egyptian cotton ones caught my eye.
Now for some (sledpress) 330 may not seem like such a high thread count, but for me this is total luxury. And of course now there is no going back to the usual cheapo 180 thread sheets so before the sales end I’m going to have to get a second set of these. But hey, I’m worth it.
What’s your favourite extravagence?

Remember last year when I first met Fourat and she inspired me to set up my upstairs room? Well, I’m afraid that’s as far as I got with it and didn’t actually end up using the room for sewing. But it seems that Fourat is determined to keep inspiring me and during our catch up lunch yesterday (which was actually yet another birthday lunch!) she surprised me with a pair of lovely red linen placemats.
I immediately thought of the upstairs room with its happy red IKEA chair and bright red cupboard knobs and knew the placemats would look fabulous up there on the glass table, and also that, although I’m really not into sewing anymore, I’m still quite keen on breakfast. So this is now my new breakfast room.
Instead of sitting at my desk in the living room I can curl up in the comfy red chair upstairs with my coffee and iPad and enjoy the terrace view. And as soon as it gets warmer I can have the door and windows open or even sit outside. I’m already thinking of getting some proper terrace furniture and wondering if my orange tree (which is growing like crazy) will blossom this spring.
Thanks once again for the inspiration, Fourat!
