It all started when I bought a bit of Christmas music on iTunes…
I was going to order a couple of Christmas CDs from Amazon but then remembered that my CD player was on the fritz. And then I remembered that I could just download stuff and put it on my iPod! Well, isn’t that just too easy. Like today, when I felt like something other than Christmas music but still wanted something joyous. Like Glenn Gould’s Goldberg Variations that I still have somewhere on a cassette (remember those?). So I found it on iTunes (the 1955 version, the video shows a later version) and was listening to it within a few minutes. And so then I bought some Keith Jarrett. And a couple of singles by Aretha Franklin and Journey. And then I went… OMG GET ME OUT OF HERE!
Dangerous stuff. But as I no longer buy a book a week maybe it’s time to start plumping up my music collection.

I’ve mentioned the Tunas here before, but can’t find where now. They are usually university students and each different faculty (medicine, law, engineering etc) has its own group of wandering minstrals who dress up and play traditional songs, usually to make a bit of beer money and pick up girls. Though I remember once in Salamanca seeing a group of Tunas below a balcony serenading an 80-year-old woman, which remains in my mind as one of the most endearing things I have ever seen.
For the past week or so I’ve been seeing all sorts of Tunas wandering around, and many a bit long in the tooth to be university students. So I finally stopped and asked what was going on and it turns out there is an international Tuna competition going on here. Tonight I saw a group from Mexico! But this group in the video are from nearby Granada.
I do love the Tunas…

A couple of months ago I was in a store and this song came on over the intercom. And I knew I knew it but couldn’t for the life of me remember the name or the artist. So I whipped out my iPhone and with the help of the totally amazing Shazam app found out that the song was Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione, a favourite of mine from mumblety years ago. I don’t know what it is about this tune, but it sounds so joyous to me and always makes me smile. It also sums up my week, and how it feels being at home again. So good!

Yet another change since moving to the new casa az … I’ve started listening to music again. I don’t remember when I got out of the habit of putting on the radio or my iPod, but it was a very long time ago. Then after moving I couldn’t find Nero and was surprised at how much that upset me, especially since I’d barely used him, or his little speaker deck, for ages.
Then one day I found him, exactly where I’d looked about ten times before (in my laptop bag) and it’s been none stop music around here ever since. I don’t know why, but it just feels right having music playing. Even the cats help out in that department – their little paws pounding up and down the wooden stairs sound like bongos. Have I mentioned how much I love my new home?
