still love twitter

I don’t know of any other social media platform that can do this. Usually this blog serves as my MEMORY for when I want to check back on when this or that happened. And to be honest I was actually going to write a post about my new iridescent green jacket – never forget this is the MOST BORING BLOG in the world! – but couldn’t find a good photo of it. And while I was kicking myself for not doing this when they told me at El Corte Inglés they could only help me if I remembered the exact day I bought the jacket I suddenly remembered this tweet.

I only chat like this on Twitter. My random whatevers. Though I am making progress with Bluesky in case Twitter suddenly flips over and dies. After trying ALL the Twitter alternatives Bluesky is the one that works for me. And really? I’ve been meeting some lovely people there. Poco á poco.

This weekend Meta Dread Threads was finally approved by the EU so people here could join up and bing bing bing suddenly all their friends from Facebook and Instagram were there too because (duh) IT’S THE SAME FUCKING COMPANY. So they are signing up in droves because omg it’s so easy! I don’t know why the EU finally decided to let Threads in, and I don’t care. I am just NOT going to have every single social media platform I use being run by the same crazed company.

So for now I am sticking with floundering Twitter and upstart Bluesky. If you need a Bluesky invite code just let me know.

I FINALLY got onto Bluesky this morning. They sent me an invite code in April but it kept not working so I requested another one and that one also didn’t work plus then I was told my email was invalid. Grrrrrr. I tried a few more times and then gave up. Until this morning. I don’t know why but I was scrolling through Twitter in bed and suddenly thought dammit, I’m gonna try that damn invite code ONE MORE TIME. And this time it worked! I’m in.

Bluesky feels more like Twitter than the other alternatives I’ve tried, which is probably not surprising as it was created by Jack. But it’s still a bit glitchy. For example, I managed to sign in on the app, but the desktop version still won’t recognise me. Oh well. If you’re also there, come and say hi.

Yep, another one. Still in Beta so there’s a waiting list. I just got on it today and am feeling my way around. It seems much more user-friendly than the other “Twitter alternatives” I’ve tried and  the very interesting thing is that you can pay (or earn money) for “premium” content. For example, on Twitter a lot of newspapers are behind a paywall and, while I agree with paying for good journalism, I don’t want to pay for a dozen or more subscriptions when I may only read a couple of articles a month from a particular news service. This way I can just pay per article if I’m interested in reading it. Likewise, people can post there like they would on any social media site, or they can charge to read certain posts. Anyhow, it’s early days so we’ll see how it goes.
