never too late?

This Mail On-line article made me sad.

As did this is age-enhanced childhood picture that accompanies the article, showing what Michael Jackson would look like now at age 50 if he’d never had all that cosmetic surgery.

Yesterday I twittered this fabulous quote I’d come across on the Colon Club message board. Later raincoaster countered with its ‘opposite’…

“It is never to late to be what you might have been” George Eliot

“Very early in my life it was too late.” Marguerite Duras

I wonder if it was always ‘too late’ for Michael Jackson. And I really hope that it’s not too late for me. I feel like I still have so much growing up to do. And, as I posted elsewhere, I would like all this cancer stuff to at least end up with me becoming a somewhat wiser and better person. Boy, I’d better get to work!

are you disturbingly profound or profoundly disturbing?

You Are Disturbingly Profound

You’re contemplative, thoughtful, and very intense.

Taking time to figure out the meaning of life is a priority for you.

Because you’re so introspective, you often react in ways that surprise people.

No one can really understand how you are on the inside… and that disturbs them.

Are You Disturbingly Profound or Profoundly Disturbing?

colon club

Today I joined the Colon Club.

I’d first checked out this site shortly after being diagnosed and read some of the stuff on the ‘Colon Talk’ message board, but somehow didn’t feel like I could talk to ‘total strangers’ about what was going on. I think in part because it hadn’t really sunk in yet. Then this morning I had another look at it and decided to take the plunge and become a member.

When I was talking to raincoaster on the phone the other day she suggested that I look for a support group, or even start a private blog to vent if I needed to, which were both good suggestions. But I’m really not a group person and I find the stuff I post here about cancer stuff supplies enough venting  (and the wonderful caring responses I get really help me a lot).

But the Colon Club online support group seems perfect for me because there is no physical commitment for me to be somewhere – I can stop in whenever I like for as long as I like.  Also, as this site is specifically about colon cancer, I’m already learning a lot by reading about other people’s experiences.

I’ll still be writing about my progress and experiences here, but it feels good to have another outlet where I can talk to people who have been through similar stuff.

where do you blog?

I got this idea from Silverstar, who has a very cosy looking blogging space. This is where I sit to blog  and otherwise obsess spend time on the internet (when I’m not curled up with the laptop in bed ). It’s pretty minimalist, but all of casa az tends to be fairly uncluttered. What it normally isn’t is this tidy – Nog has recently dusted and reorganised the bookshelves (an annual event here). As you can see,  there are more books than last year and my IKEA wheelie chair is now falling to bits, but I actually kind of prefer it without the back piece.

I like blogging in here because it’s a big bright room and yet still feels cosy somehow, here in my little corner. Note large cat in corner of photo stealing smaller cat’s food …

Where do you blog from?

la tomatina

According to this Wikipedia article…

La Tomatina is a food fight festival held on the last Wednesday of August each year in the town of Buñol in the Valencia region of Spain. Tens of thousands of participants come from all over the world to fight in a brutal battle where more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets.

The week-long festival features music, parades, dancing, and fireworks. On the night before the tomato fight, participants of the festival compete in a paella cooking contest.

So today is the day, and here is a video of it from the Grauniad…
