My list of the top things people should not say to cancer patients (some pinched from elsewhere ‘cos I can totally relate!) ~ what next
The other day Colon Club member what next wrote a post called “the stupid things that people say” and included a very good list of stupid comments and witty responses. And I enjoyed it so much that I’m stealing it. 🙂
I find I do get annoyed with the constant platitudes. So sue me. I’ve lost quite a few “friends” this past year and a half because they felt uneasy about my way of coping and especially about my not needing or wanting what they felt like giving me. I know that some of you will say that people mean well and are often just at a loss as to what to say. But frankly, the best thing to say in this sort of situation is … “oh dear, I don’t know what to say!” To which the person with cancer can simply reply… “That’s okay, you don’t have to say anything”. Or in my case, “That’s okay, you don’t have to say anything, just send money”. 😉

Today’s Photohunter theme is “tied”.
Since I don’t tie up my cats (though I sometimes have to bundle them in a towel to give them oral meds) my thoughts naturally moved on to tied-up food. Last winter I started making roasted chickens on a regular basis – wonderful comfort food. This was the first one.
You can see the untied version below …

Remember Mini – my wee companion during my ten-day holiday in Zahara? Well, she had been suffering from the effects of old age for quite awhile and took a sudden turn for the worse on Wednesday afternoon. AgustÃn called to cancel his English class with me so that he and Elena could take her to the vet’s. And the dear old girl ended up dying in Elena’s arms while they were in the waiting room. She would have been 15 in January.
I went over to AgustÃn’s yesterday morning to recuperate his lost class and it felt so sad not seeing Mini there. Her food dishes were gone, her comfy bed put away (AgustÃn said it would be a shame to throw it out and wants me to take it home for Azar). I’m not much of a dog person and don’t usually like little lap dogs, but I’ve known Mini since she was a pup and she did end up growing on me over the years, especially because she was so affectionate. Glad I got to spend that time with her in Zahara. And my heart goes out to AgustÃn & Elena – their sadness is a reflection of how much they loved Mini, who had a very long and happy life.
She was a very lucky girl.

What do you think of my new theme?
It’s actually the theme I made for my new kitchen blog back in September, and I found that whenever I went over there I got a really pleasant feeling of well-being. I think it was all the green. Anyhow, I decided to swap themes, so if you can’t remember what the old casa az looked like then have a look over there. I kind of think the other theme suits the food blog better too.
