All this plus a beer for Nog and a glass of wine for me cost 7€.

People who know me and who also follow @SevillaTapas on Twitter probably wonder how I can afford to go out for tapas so often … and the truth is I can’t, and also, looks can be deceiving. About half the time I’m invited out by friends, the rest of the time Nog & I go out and share a tapa with a drink each, which usually costs about 5€. Not bad for an evening out or an after-Saturday-morning-errands snack. And this way I also keep the “live photos” thing going on Twitter and Facebook, which I hope drives some traffic over to the Sevilla Tapas blog (and may lead to tour bookings!).
But the best tapas deal by far has to be the recently discovered Jueves Gastronómicos at a tiny bar near my house called Extraverde. Each Thurdsay (jueves) they choose one food item and make three special tapas for 1 euro each. Last night they featured tuna and above you can see tuna tartare served on little toasts, baked tuna with mixed greens and tuna tataky on a bed of marinated roasted peppers. Unbelievable value. I’ve only been to one other JG (featuring avocado) and sadly missed the one with beets(!), but hope to make this a regular Thursday outing. Last night while we were sitting there with the doors of the bar wide open and a gentle fragrance of azahar drifting in from the square I just wanted time to stand still, it all felt so perfect.
Where do you usually go to eat out?
What could you get for 7€ (approx $10)?

It is certainly fair to say nothing like this much.
Tapas rocks!

Well, this also isn’t normal here as it’s a special promotion. Typically a drink and a tapa cost between 3 – 5 euros. Prices have pretty much doubled since I moved here in 1992, but it’s still an affordable way to get out of the house and enjoy a snack and a drink.
This 3-tapas and 2-drinks 7€ deal would probably make a nice light meal or, shared, a pleasant “snackatito”.
Tapas truly do rock, and they are great to share as you get to try a lot more things. I was saying to my friend Jessica the other day that I couldn’t actually remember the last time I had a whole tapa to myself. Years maybe?

Yeah I always like sharing stuff when eating out…. Makes the whole thing a more fun and more communal event.
I also like going to tapas bars and sort of saying “We wanna spend £XX.XX, knock your self out” and just having whatever stuff they think is right to give you.
We did that in a cool Tapas bar in Glasgow last year and it was brilliant.

Wow, that is a great deal! I love it that they feature a food for the 3 different tapas. That really appeals to me. Next time I’m in Sevilla, I’ll have to put Thursdays at Extraverde on my list. (And I really, really, REALLY want to get back to Sevilla.)
When we go out, we usually go for a full meal, and the cost is quite a bit more. Our favorite restaurant to go now is a Japanese buffet, but it is quite pricey. (For an adult it is close to $30 US per person on a weekend night. But you can eat infinite amounts of sushi, if you can find infinite room in your stomach…) Since it’s a buffet, and they charge a flat rate, you can’t actually eat there for $10.
When I go to work, I like to get lunch from “the trucks” at the university. There is one such truck that has really good vegetarian food that they make from good quality (local when possible) produce. A sandwich there costs $5, and is a filling meal. If I had to spend $10 for 2 people, that would be my choice. But we’d have to drink tap water, or bring our own drinks, if we wanted to keep the cost to $10.

Wow – 5 bucks for a sandwich??? Though I guess that’s not any crazier than a 4 euro tapa. Which are becoming more and more common these days, sad to say.
I never do well with buffets, unless the meal is at least three hours long.

Five dollars for a (good) sandwich is normal to inexpensive in my area (Washington DC, USA) depending on the type of sandwich. $5 would be a promotion for a loaded sub sandwich.
Vegetarians can score pretty well around here and I hang out in Thai and Japanese places, For $10 I can get a pot of tea and the lunch special at Crystal Sunflower Vegetarian, salad or miso depending on the season and assorted stir fries with rice, of which one of my favorite is the kale and burdock deluxe with chick peas and ginger. No, really.

Not much…. McDonalds now costs more than that, in many cases (not that I eat there, any more).
Actually, there is an Indian take-away (or eat in) near me which does have really good food which isn’t overly expensive. Shaan Curry House… http://www.shaancurryhouse.com/
I often order sushi (once a week, generally).
We often order in because it is easier than my having to cook in my tiny over-crowded kitchen and easier than taking the time to try and cook (once we move, I am hoping that I will have enough room to actually be able to move around my kitchen and have enough counter space to prepare food). I am dying to be able to make bread, again. I am going to “lose” some of the piles of Tupperware crap my mother has, and have a place for the appliances like the slow-cooker, electric grill, etc, so I can use them easily.
I envy people who live in new homes because they have kitchens with lots of storage and counter space. Out co-op is 25 years old and while is has more counter and storage space than our original kitchen in the house I grew up in, it just isn’t enough.
And who designed stoves???? Why do they invariably have a large burner on the left and small burner on the right — and reversed in the back? I always cook on the right side of the stove because I am right-handed.
Does any one else “cook to the right” or does it matter to you?

PS… Monday’s special at Shaan is the Lamb Biriyani (which my sister insists on calling Briyani, even when you repeatedly call it Biriyani). The specials are only available until 2pm. The Biriyani always sells out before that time and I have only a few times been able to make it to the place before it is all gone. I SWEAR
It is SOOOOO good.

I don’t go out for a meal often, but I don’t think you’ll find a lot for € 7
However, I had some nice chips, topped with three fried eggs on Thursday. It was so much that I took the leftovers home. It was € 7.50. It’s not a special offer, just part of the normal menu you can get there.

This one is a bit more normal priced. Very nice tapa with olives, picos and two drinks – 6€.
We were on the way home from Saturday morning errands and it was getting late, so stopped in at Puracepa for a pre-lunch snack around 1 o’clock. I also had to pick up some wine info they had for me for the wine-tasting evenings I’m planning.
Good thing too as it’s going on 4.00 and Nog is just making his lunch now (I’m still thinking about mine…). Saturdays are like that.
