Way a long time back ago I saw John Fahey play in a small café in Toronto. Mind blown. No way all of that amazingness could have come from one man playing one guitar. On a twelve-string even more mind blowing. A rare and incredible talent.

This week I was invited to Asturias – Cocina de Paisaje, a moveable feast sponsored by Turismo Asturias and held at the Escuela de Hostelería de Sevilla to promote the gastronomy of Asturias by bringing it to various parts of Spain. Three ambassador chefs provided all the deliciousness and we also enjoyed regional cider and wine.

The smoke from the Canada fires has reached Spain. For the past couple of days the grey haze over Sevilla has been attributed to this. It sounds crazy until we remember that we are often overcome by Sahara sand. Stunning photo above by In Like Flynn Photography shows a smoky sunrise in Gibraltar.

Another reason to make sure I get out of the house at night more often. I mean, how fucking gorgeous is this? View from where I was part of a press dinner celebrating Asturian chefs and dishes and culture at the Sevilla Culinary School. More on that later! Gotta say though that slogging home with a dodgy knee over that bridge at midnight (no taxis anywhere) wasn’t ideal. Still, fucking gorgeous, right? I love Sevilla so much.
