moving, pizza

I am about to eat my fifth pizza in the the past two weeks…

I think I usually eat pizza about once ever six months or so, but this moving biz just leaves things like time and kitchen availability so unpredictable that sending Nog out for a pizza for us to share seems like the quickest and most economical way for us to have something resembling a hot meal. This also includes the “pre-moving” period after the kitchen had been packed up and we were tired of sandwiches (though I guess a pizza really is just a fancier version of cheese on toast).

I thought our pizza days were behind us as we now have a fairly well-stocked fridge and most of the kitchen cupboards have been cleaned and organised. In fact, I made a lovely carbonara for lunch yesterday. But then the handyman came back today to do a few jobs, which meant me hobbling off to the hardware store to get this & that (Nog was out teaching), which took up most of the morning, and then there were some minor kitchen repairs that left that room unusable for another couple of hours… so more pizza.

But I have to say that the place is really coming together. It’s great that the landlords have sent the handyman over to make sure everything is in good working order. Apparently he has to come back tomorrow to take care of a few other things, and then we’ll be pretty much set up and it will just be a matter of UNPACKING.

christmas, sevilla, tapas

Just home from a wonderful Christmas tapas lunch with my friend Juan at Albarama. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen each other and so we made sure to get together during the holidays. It was great to catch up and have some great food and nice wine – I bet even ol’ grinchy Sledpress would have had a good time. Which just goes to show that she’s been doing this Christmas stuff all wrong…

bogavantes, christmas eve, lobsters

The other day Carmen from El Marino (an excellent seafood tapas bar & restaurant here) posted photos of some lobsters (bogavantes) that they had just got in. And it occurred to me that this would make for a fabulous Christmas Eve meal. It’s been years (about 20) since I cooked lobster at home, so after I call Carmen’s husband Nicolas today to find out where to get the best bogavantes in town I shall have to figure out how I want to cook them.

Any suggestions?

Today’s Photohunt theme is “hard-to-find”.

When was the last time you saw antelope on the menu?

It’s a particularly hard-to-find dish.

bolognese, lentils, risotto

Some might say I’m just avoiding WORK for the final SimonSeeks deadline tomorrow, but I prefer to think of it as… well okay, you got me. Of course the other deciding factor here is that Peter & I went to do some supermarket shopping yesterday and found out there was a special offer going on – for every 10 euros we spent we’d get a voucher for 10 euros (redeemable for every 30 euros spent between now and the end of January). So what the hell. We did actually need to stock up and even if we only use half the vouchers, that’s still 30% off every supermarket purchase for the next two months.

Hence, we ended up with ALL THIS FOOD that needed to be cooked and then frozen (the majority of these dishes will end up being Peter’s frozen lunch options). So we made up a spinach, bacon & mushroom risotto yesterday, and today a meaty bolognese and those fabby lentils & sausages. Tomorrow there’s a pork & veg stew to do as well.

But now that everything is nicely simmering away it’s time to bite the bullet and get the last of my SimonSeeks articles up. I mean, they’re all mostly done, so why is it so hard to finish them?? Wish me luck!
