Look what we just bought!
Well, we don’t have it yet – it’s going to be delivered on Tuesday.
Courtesy of our big translation job. Not bad for one job – a trip to Lisbon, a 32″ flat screen television and a hopefully debt-free summer (I usually always go into debt during the summer as there is next to no teaching work). But that’ll be the end of this recent spate of retail therapy madness.
Quite looking forward to seeing House on the BIG SCREEN.

Which one do you prefer? Las Vegas? Miami? New York?
I’d actually never seen any of them before today, but this morning I noticed that one of our new Telefonica tv channels was showing a three-parter this afternoon. One of each. So Nog & I thought this would be a good way to check them all out and compare them (though he’d previously seen some of the original Las Vegas ones). And anyhow, it was a nice & cosy way to spend a holiday Friday afternoon.
Curled up on the sofa with the cats – Doritos &
for me … Pringles &
for Nog.
I think they are all quite fine light entertainment. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to watch them (unlike how I totally arrange my life to watch House 😉 ) but now if I see one of them is on and I’m wanting a bit of distraction they would fit the bill more than most tv programmes I know of. And I quite like the Who theme music.
So, which one is your favourite … and why?

I love this programme.
And I’m also slightly in lust with Hugh Laurie – who’d have thunk that Bertie Wooster had such a gritty & sexy side to him? Add to that a great supporting cast, excellent snappy & intelligent dialogue and Bryan Singer as executive producer and you get totally compelling television … not something that happens very often.

How has this happened?
Last week I was a happily mal-adjusted internet & intensity junkie, still managing to squeeze in a few basically necessary RL activities here and there … but since I got the new Telefónica service it seems I’m suddenly also hooked on television!
How can this be? And more importantly – where will I find the time for this?
Well okay, I haven’t actually watched all that much TV since last Tuesday, but as I find out more about what is available to watch I find myself thinking about my day in a totally different way … as in, what will I be doing at 5pm today when House is on?
It’s crazy. For about the past 14 years I haven’t thought of my television set as anything other than a means to watch video/dvd films. But now there are actually programmes and films being shown in English!!! and it’s proving too tempting to ignore.
For example, last night Nog & I watched a couple of Simpsons episodes, which was quite fun (trust me, the Simpsons dubbed into Spanish seriously does not work). But then they put on Desperate Housewives – something I’d never seen before – and even though I wasn’t particularly enjoying it, I kept watching. Eep!
Perhaps the novelty will wear off? Maybe there is still hope?
