documentary, leaving neverland, michael jackson

Don’t watch this if you don’t want your guts ripped open and your eyes full of tears. I wasn’t sure what to expect… and I didn’t want to believe it. Michael Jackson, musical idol since I was a child (he was one year younger than me). But in the end I do believe those boys, and still cannot think of any possible excuse for the parents. And it brought back so much, too much… so many old feelings. Always believe the children. xx

big bang theory

big bang theory, television

I so often come to these things late in the game. Like when I first saw Sex and the City while on chemo in 2008 (long after the series had ended) as back then it was being shown here every morning at 9.30 and it was an easy hour – 2 episodes a day – to mindlessly switch off.

There are other examples that escape me at the moment, but the most recent one is the Big Bang Theory. I mean, I’d heard of it (though I hadn’t realized it is still in production with series 11!). I happened upon it because I had happened upon another new series called Young Sheldon and found it amusing. Then the penny dropped and I checked out BBT. I can’t remember when I started with it but somehow I have actually got through the first 10 series (!!!) and am now watching it “in real time”.

It’s also proved useful for work. The other night I was out with a family, parents with their two teenage kids, and at one point the girl was talking about how organized she likes to be. And I said… “so do you mean SHELDON organized or just normal organized?” and I think scored some points. Couldn’t have done that a few months ago.  🙂

Casa Monardes

The plague of rats first spotted in Sevilla in January is coming to an end. Over the past couple of weeks Peter and I have hunted down all the locations of La Ruta Dorada de la Peste (the Golden Route of the Plague) billed as an interactive street art tour, though in fact we never did come across any of the promised QR codes that would give us an audio guide of the location. The rats were mostly found on lamp posts and balconies, with the Alameda having the largest number and Plaza Molviedro with just two. Anyhow, here they are…

A plague of golden rats has invaded Sevilla! This unusual street art is part of the promotion for a MoviStar television series set in Sevilla during the second half of the 16th century, when the city was in the grips of the Black Plague.

La Ruta Dorada de la Peste (the Golden Route of the Plague) is an interactive tour that takes you to eleven locations throughout Sevilla that have some relationship with the series and its characters, a mix of fact and fiction. The places to find the rats are the Royal Prison (shown here), Calle Pureza in Triana, Plaza Molviedro, the Cathedral, the Cromberger printing house in Calle Pajaritos, La Casa de la Moneda, the Alameda de Hércules, the Hospital of the Five Wounds, Castillo de San Jorge, Plaza del Cabildo and Casa Monardes in Calle Sierpes. Next to the sculptures you can find a QR code that you can scan with your mobile phone that will take you to an audio guide and a brief explanation about the history of each location.

La Ruta will continue until the end of February and I intend on visiting all the locations. Watch this space…

movistar

I was so excited when I first got Netflix, thinking it was going to open up a whole world of digital viewing possibilities. But the selection – at least in Spain – is so dire that I gave it up after my six-month free trial was over (this week). And so now I’ve gone back to Movistar, which I ran screaming from over five years ago after I moved house and they royally screwed me over. But hey, times change. And Movistar seems to have a good deal going on, especially since they merged with Canal+. So I’ll try it out and see how it goes. I already like the interface better, much more intuitive. Also got Yomvi set up so I can watch my channels on the iPad when I’m away. Yeah, I know. But it’s fun news for me. Still have the same cord-chewing issues going on though…
