omg I’m 65!

I had big ideas for this milestone birthday. My first thought was to take myself somewhere, like I did on my 60th. In fact I thought about taking the same trip, which was to Barcelona by train (because I certainly didn’t fancy getting on a plane). But then omicron came, the “numbers” suddenly went up all over Spain, and so a trip anywhere became out of the question. Then I thought… maybe a small party? I toyed with that idea, wondering how and where to do it outside, and with whom.

But as the day drew closer I realised I still hadn’t made any plans so in the end I decided to just go with, well, whatever came up. At first this felt a bit sad, because I was really hoping to do something special and memorable and all that. But you know what? It was fine. A lovely (6 hour!) lunch today out in good company, with delicious food and plenty of wonderful wine. With more birthday celebrations (sort of) planned for the weekend. My new hashtag on Instagram is #puentedemicumple. Will do a recap on Monday!

loki vet time

Poor Loki! We were having a cuddle on Sunday evening when I noticed Loki’s mouth looked a bit strange on one side. So I had a look inside his mouth and – eek! – his upper left incisor was all bloody. And so it was off to the vet’s yesterday. Always so stressful. I can never tell who gets more stressed out, me or the screaming cat – or the taxi driver who has to drive us (I always tip well) – but omg it’s awful.

Once we got to the vet’s Loki calmed down and, being the good boy he is, let Eva give him a check over and even pry his mouth open without making a fuss. And well, it’s not as bad as I had feared. The enamel on the front of his incisor has broken off but, aside from being a bit inflamed (not bloody) Eva says it should heal over. Which is GOOD NEWS as the only cat orthodontists in Spain are in Málaga and A Coruña. So Loki is taking anti-inflammatories for three days and after that I’ll keep an eye on him, with another check up in a month’s time.

hope 2023

Yep, it’s that time of year again. You may recall that way back on January 3rd 2009 I posted a photo of my battered old daybook turned to January 3rd 2010 with the words “STILL HERE!” written on it, as part of a weekly Photo Challenge I was doing at the time – the theme that week was Hope. I had finished a second stint of chemo a few months previously and this felt like a very bold thing to do – to hope I’d still be here on the same day a year hence.

I have continued the “tradition of hope” since then and have posted a similar photo on this date each year. So, as always, here’s hoping that I will still be here January 3rd 2023, and will see this page in my book… and then post my hopeful wish for 2024.
