don juan, hotels, sevilla

casualThere’s a new hotel in town… the Casual Sevilla Don Juan Tenorio in the heart of barrio Santa Cruz. I was invited to the opening party, which started off with a short play about – who else? – Don Juan, performed by four brilliant young actors from Micro Teatro.

Afterwards there were the usual snacks and chatting, and before long I had to head out and take over a tapas tour. My first ever “tag team” event! Ania started off the tour so that I could go to the opening, but she couldn’t stay until the end because she’d miss the last metro home, so we agreed to split the tour and it worked out rather well. I think the clients enjoyed it too. A two-fer.

alexisLove it when stuff like this happens. I went out late morning to run some errands, and a bit of shopping at the market for a dinner party with friends, and then I stopped off at Lama La Uva (my favourite new wine shop) to pick up some wine. There was a woman there talking with shop owner Ana Linares and so I politely waited my turn and perused the shelves… and then I realized this woman had a couple of olive oil bottles out on the counter, as well as the tell-tale dark blue olive tasting glasses… it could only be an OLIVE OIL TASTING.

So of course I butted in and joined the conversation, and I could tell that this other woman was NOT Spanish. And then the penny dropped and I said… YOU’RE ALEXIS!

This mystery olive oil woman, founder of The Olive Oil Workshop, has been on my radar for AGES, and I’d been meaning to get in touch and plan to meet up sometime. But now I’m glad that never happened. Because meeting Alexis exactly how we met was… well, perfect.

What was supposed to be a quick wine purchase segued into an hour long chat including cheese, olive oil and wine… and meeting a new friend. Both Alexis and I are keen to work with the fabulous Ana, and maybe even with each other! The one true thing is… get three dynamic women together over a glass of wine, all talking about possibilities… I reckon only amazing things will come of this. Also, it was fun.

le-streeter-3International food truck Le Streeter opened in the Corte Inglés Gourmet Experience back in December but with so much going on the Official Opening Party finally happened tonight. Cuban music, wine and snacks, cocktails and dancing… a fun way to spend a Saturday night, that’s for sure.

abaceria puerta carmona, bars, sevilla, tapas

abaceria-carmonaStuff like this just makes my day. After a couple of hours sorting out “papeles” at the social security office for my online digital certificate, and then setting up appointments for blood tests and my next oncology appointment, it was definitely BEER O’CLOCK. But then I remembered reading about a place I’d never been to (yep, there are still a few of them out there) so Peter and I walked over to the Abacería Puerta Carmona. I had only expected to have a quick beer and go home, instead we met a lovely guy called Chía who offered us manzanilla en rama and mango vermouth… and well, we had to stick around after that. Tried a few tapas, had a great time. Love my job.  🙂

mercer-1Diego Cabrera & Alberto Fernández

I’d been looking forward to the opening of the Mercer Hotel for months – an exclusive grand-luxe 5 star in the centre of the city, which finally opened a couple of months ago. I did stop in at the bar awhile ago, and then was invited to an “opening” of sorts, introducing the bar and its new name – FIZZ bar – as well as the new María Luísa Restaurant.

It was a fun night out, meeting up with friends, enjoying some cocktails and snacks from the Snackeria (the bar’s snack bar), and apparently an invitation to the new restaurant will be forthcoming. Well, not a bad way to spend a Wednesday evening. And I was happy to finally meet famed mixologist Diego Cabrera, who not only created the cocktail menu for the Mercer, but also runs the fabulous Salmon Guru in Madrid. mercer-2
