Meet my stand-in … Mr Sevilla.
In the past few days I’ve received several requests for tapas tours with three of them asking about tours while I am in London – figures! I thought I would have to say no but then I thought to ask Nog if he would like to try doing a couple of tours. At first he wasn’t sure but we talked it over and I said I would help him organise everything and explained it wouldn’t be any different than when we’ve taken out visiting friends here. And so he’s going to do it! First we thought he would just have one tour taking a couple from London out on Saturday, but then last night I got a confirmation from six lawyers from Liverpool ( ! ) for Friday which should be fun. I’d actually love to be doing these tours myself, but at least now I don’t have to let anyone down and – also very importantly – we will make a bit of extra cash this month. Plus I think this will be good experience for Nog. He’s really turning into quite the Sevilla Expert himself, helping out with my SimonSeeks research, and of course he knows all the tapas bars (and tapas) as well as I do, having been with me since the inception of Sevilla Tapas. And he even sucks the brains out of giant prawns (see above) which is something I’ve never been able to do.
So wish Nog luck this weekend! I know that he’ll do a good job and I suspect he is also going to have a great time. I mean, what better work is there than meeting interesting people and taking them out for tapas and wine?
Good luck Nog!

I lost my ability to comment when I got to the part about sucking the brains out of giant prawns.

Yeah, I know, but it is *the* done thing as apparently that’s where all the flavour is.
I shall never know as sucking grey mush out of a prawn’s head is just not in my repertoire.

I think it’s brilliant that you’ve turned the one thing you (both!) seem to love above all other activities into a money-making proposition.
Oh, and watch out for those Liverpuddlians — don’t they drink like fish? I’d plan their tapas crawl to end near their hotel! 🙂

Well, it’s just one of several part-time jobs at the moment, but yeah, it’s fun. And it would be great to get a steady number of them happening.
Ah well, Nog is going to have to deal with any extra drinking – and also charge them for it at the end of the evening! It sounds like they’ll have a good time though.

Brain sucking and extra drinks! Sounds like a winner and I know Nog will shine.
Good luck my friend!
Cheers!

Well … uff! Have just spent the last hour and a half organising the two tours, writing up the itineraries, and printing the info-packs (these are really cool and I don’t know any other tapas tour people who do this). Also went out earlier today and made all the reservations – in person! I want to see it written down. That’s usually my job anyhow, so I don’t mind doing it for Nog. I like that we can sometimes work as a team like this. And I don’t want to sound morbid, but if I do kick the bucket in the nearish future, I’m happy to think Nog will benefit from all this organising and “training”.

Yeah, there actually is more to it that just taking people around and ordering tapas. Have also given Nog some material to read on jamón ibérico and the different types of cheese here so he can tell the clients a bit more about what they’re eating. Anyhow, just one more bar to visit today – would like to book a table for the group of six at a special place but will have to convince Pedro to let them order tapas at the table and not raciones. We shall see…

Leaving aside giant prawns and the like, I hope all goes well!
And I think Nog now needs a new t-shirt,,,

Sounds really good & I’m so glad that Nog is having this opportunity to expand his repertoire & earn some extra money. The last thing you’d have wanted would have been to turn down prospective tapas tours, especially at this stage of building up the business. Hope all goes well for you both over the next few days.
