A couple of years ago I wrote about the sea cats of Cádiz, remarking on the little shelters that someone had put out for them amongst the seawall boulders. This visit I was not only pleasantly surprised to see many more shelters put up, but I also met the woman responsible for them. She also captures the cats, gets them sterilised, and returns them to their sea homes. On this day I found her caring for a small ginger girl who was feeling poorly and we got to talking. What a wonderful thing to do.
So there I was – as usual – making last minute bodega visit plans via Twitter and WhatsApp the day before my trip… and mostly that worked out, except that two of the bodegas I wanted to visit weren’t available at such short notice. Really, it was probably enough seeing five bodegas in two and a half days, but I am always left wanting more. I think I might plan a longer stay in Jerez soon and make day trips to Sanlúcar and El Puerto while there, and keep it down to one bodega a day. Well, maybe two now and then… 😉

So you really can’t go to Cádiz without taking this iconic postcard shot of the Cathedral with the pastel painted houses on the left, the sea in front of you, and preferably with a cooperative seagull passing by. Could’ve done without the ugly building crane on the left, but oh well.
Just above “cat city” I spotted several seagulls vying for ownership over a whack of small fish that were laying across one of the boulders. Clearly tossed there by someone. And then one of them posed nicely for me…
