BBC team make US Spanish journey

This Saturday, I am setting off on a two-week long trip across the United States with a simple goal in mind: to only speak Spanish during the journey.
I am not trying to achieve or break any record. I just want to see what it is like to cross the country without uttering a word of English.

Big deal – looking at the map of the route they will be taking it doesn’t seem like much of a challenge in terms of finding people along the way who speak Spanish. Why not try cutting across the country from New York to San Francisco instead?

I’d actually quite like to see a Canadian version of this, showing someone going from Victoria to St John’s only speaking French. f_devil.gif

Today is Nog’s first day at the English day camp.

I swear, it’s not something I could ever do but clearly Nog is a much braver soul than I am. Also, his regular classes are now over until September (I’ll still be working part time in July and August) so needs must and all that.

Apparently he’s in charge of two groups of 9-13 year olds (yikes!). He gives a two-hour class (eep!) to each group and in between they have a snack and go for a swim. Well, the kids swim while the teachers race between the two private ‘nautical’ clubs (about ten minutes apart) to teach their second group, after they’ve handed out the morning snack.

I just got a text message from Nog saying things are going well so far, just the second class to get through now.

And I have been busily doing ‘housewifey’ stuff all morning, specifically preparing all kinds of Nog’s favourite foods so he can have whatever his brave heart desires for lunch when he gets back (around 3pm).

I think it’s gonna be a l-o-n-g month. . .

You know how it is.

It’s 6.30 am on a Saturday and the damn cats get you up to serve brekky because they still have no idea what weekends are all about. So then you crawl back into bed with your laptop and wait for your still snoozing partner to wake up and suggest coffee in bed. Meanwhile you are wandering around the blogosphere and finding some rather unusual places you’ve never seen before. And this is one of them.

Engrish.com showcases some of the humorous English mistakes that appear in Japanese advertising and product design.

Check out the recent discoveries – loved the ‘2 for 1 sale’ and ‘good girls not welcome’. 🙂

Just add water . . .

Okay, not really. Just add random words to Crazy Libs original or classic stories and get your own personalized version. Here’s one of mine…

The Fishing Incident

One minute I went fishing — fishing invariably makes me nervous. Most people like to fish in streams, but I, in my wit, like to fish in rivers. Standing quickly, I baited the hook with a handbag (and a couple of silky waffles for good measure), leaned back, and lavishly cast my fishing shoelace. I waited for a whole millennium, whispering to relieve the boredom, when finally a gurgle caught my attention. Sarcastically, I pulled and waddled on my fishing shoelace, straining until my last ounce of arrogance was gone, and reeled in my catch.

I was creeped out. There, lying before me like a sneaky frying pan on a meerkat’s toenail, was a giant screwdriver. As if that weren’t scary enough, the screwdriver, to my utmost stamina, started to sigh.

Cheesily, I dropped my fishing shoelace and ran back to my castle, without looking back. I don’t know when I’ve been so ecstatic.

How about adding one of yours?
