Big news! The Michelin gala for the presentation of the 2020 guide for Spain and Portugal will be held in Sevilla on November 20th at the Lope de Vega theatre. I was invited to the press conference announcing the event, which took place in the beautiful AlcΓ‘zar gardens. Hoping I’ll also get an ivite to the gala πŸ˜‰ .

Today’s Photohunt theme is “free”.

Although at first glance this photo doesn’t seem to fit the theme, these are some free range pigs & piglets foraging about next to the mountain road going up to Cachopo, Portugal (the fence is there to stop them from wandering out onto the highway).

a taste of portugal

portugal

I came across this wonderful Portuguese food shop quite by accident the other day when Nog & I were out for a walk and made a special trip back on Friday because I was told they have fresh Portuguese bread brought in that day. Memories of Lisbon and Tavira came flooding back after making a simple lunch of crusty bread, a selection of cheeses, black olive paste and salad.

Actually, that’s the typical starter in most Portuguese restaurants. I swear I could almost live on bread & cheese alone. Well, with a nice wine and some sort of fresh veg.Β  But they just don’t have good bread in Sevilla. I can’t remember what it was like when I lived in Salamanca, but in Barcelona the bread has a lot more character and flavour. Maybe it’s an Andalusian thing? White “cotton wool” tasteless pap with a pale and very uncrusty crust.Β  Bleh.

You can see more photos below (including lunch!) …

This is where Flor lives … beautiful, isn’t it?

Who’d have thought that going back to yoga class would not only be good for my health & well-being, but also for my social life? Last week I was walking into the gym at the same time as one of the new yoga members (well, new since I left last May) , who said hello to me and asked my name. I was expecting the usual confused response that Spanish people have when they first hear my name, but instead this woman said, “is that with a W?”. Ha! It turned out that she wasn’t Spanish at all, but a lovely and vibrant planetary citizen called Flor …

As I mentioned over here, this was quite the spontaneous trip, which was also suddenly extended from an overnight stay to three nights when I found a charming little inn that had a special 3-night offer going. Pipocas and her husband Chucky (not his real name πŸ˜‰ ) really made this trip special by taking Nog & me out for lunch every day and also driving us to places near Tavira that we would have never seen otherwise.

As Chucky is Portuguese he ‘did the honours’ at mealtimes, ordering all the food and drink so that we often didn’t know what was coming until it showed up at the table. This was quite a refreshing change for me since I’m usually the one doing this for friends visiting Sevilla. It was nice to be on the receiving end for a change and be totally taken care of.

Muito obrigada, Pipocas & Chucky! πŸ™‚

Here are some of my travel notes on what we saw and did. There are also a few small photos here – if you’d like to see the complete photo album just click here…
