gadgets, icoat, iPhone4

… that my new iPhone4 couldn’t get any sexier, I found this very cool ruby red matte iCoat. I never got around to buying a protective cover for the original Pippin, but the iPhone4 has a strange glass back on it that apparently gets scratched up like crazy, so when I saw this very pretty cover – and tried it on at the store – I knew it was for me. It actually makes the phone feel nicer to hold, more secure. And I really do love the red. It also came with a “free screen protector” which drove me nuts trying to get it on without any air bubbles or tiny bits of lint and cat hair getting stuck under it. Needless to say I didn’t succeed and finally ripped it off in frustration after a couple of days. In any case, after more than two years the old Pippin didn’t have a scratch on his screen, but the back casing was a bit scuffed up, so doubt I actually need a screen protector. Wish my photo could show the deep rich glow of the red – even the pics on the website don’t do it justice.

So now Pippin is not only protected but also looks way sexier. Win-win. And yes, I do happen to have a life, but it somehow includes being enormously pleased about little things like this.

I actually quite like the red version of this style too!

naturalista, new shoes, sevilla, shopping

There’s an expression in Spanish – como un niño con zapatos nuevos – which is used when someone is excited about a new purchase or gift. In this case it’s doubly accurate as I am very pleased at having found a pair of zapatos nuevos that 1) fit and 2) are rather cute. So I am finally able to put my 7-year-old red Campers out to pasture.

Of course I found these while looking for new sandals as my old Mephistos seriously bit the bullet last summer and are no longer wearable. But I reckoned that if I didn’t get these now, next autumn – like last autumn – I may not find any suitable shoes.

Meanwhile, it was definitely sandal weather this past weekend and though it’s cooler again this week I’m sure it’ll soon be too warm to wear my new shoes, so new sandals must be found as soon as possible. Life ain’t easy when you have triple EEE feet.

ikea revisited

home, IKEA

It’s been ages since I’ve had to go to IKEA and it was interesting to note that the old love/hate thing is still alive. I mean, it’s a fun place to spend an hour or so wandering around for this or that, but the problem is that – not having a car – it means taking a long bus ride out to the ‘burbs and so it’s impossible to get there and back again without spending at least half a day, including lots of walking.

I had a list. There were two things I didn’t want to return without – some sort of shelf unit for the bathroom and a bed for the small bedroom. And well, I finally found the shelf unit, but the beds there seemed very expensive, so I dropped that idea knowing that I could find something better and cheaper in the calle Feria.

But, as usual, found some other things that the new casa az needed. Or at least is nicer having. Two bookcases for the very long hallway “cat airlock” that is the entrance, a kitchen step-stool (I can’t reach the top shelves in the cupboards) and the famous IKEA chair that probably everybody has owned at one time or another. I haven’t until now, but this should make Jessica laugh as when she was here for dinner last week she said she was sure I had one of those chairs. Well, I do now and it’ll be perfect for the upstairs room – either for reading or hanging out and watching a dvd. And of course had to get a RED one because everything else here is so white.

Other items bought: a flamenco shower curtain, some kitchen stuff, gauzy cotton curtains for my bedroom, and a couple packets of very crispy sour cream & onion crisps. Nog and I also had a gawd-awful snack while we were there. I could just about manage the prawn croquette so it was up to Nog to eat the rest. And then came the really fun part. Taking the list of stuff down to the warehouse, getting one of those huge trolleys, and trying to find everything. And then waiting in a queue for an eternity or two. I needed to get the big heavy stuff delivered and once again wondered about their curious pricing policy, based on how much you spend. It turned out that if the chair cushion was included in the delivery it would cost 28 euros instead of 13 euros (!!) so while Nog lugged home the sundry kitchen & bathroom stuff  in a massive paper bag I carried the big red cushion for the chair, all the while thinking “I’m saving 15 euros!” and feeling a bit sad that 15 euros made such a difference in my life.

Meanwhile, it got up to 31º in the centre of town this afternoon so after getting off the bus we stopped for a nice cold beer – first time sitting outside on a sunny terrace this year! And finally got home with my ankle aching and my feet throbbing… and now awaiting the delivery. I think they’re lost.

first amazon order

amazon, books, films, video

Wow, I had no idea that I’d started ordering from Amazon so long ago. Though I remember why. Back in the day it was impossible to see any films here in original version, or even rent the orginal versions on video. I also didn’t realise it was possible to go back and trace ALL my Amazon orders until I saw that Beth had done this and found the first thing she’d ever ordered. Unlike Beth, Amazon has never sent me any gifts for being a good customer – after almost ten years you’d think they’d at least send along a little something from my Wish List (like maybe season 8 of 24  😉 ).

Anyhow, my first order was this video of Wilde, which I still have, though I think I also have a DVD version now. This was before I learned that if I ordered three items I got charged the same delivery fee as for one. These days delivery to Spain is free! Progress, eh?

What was your first Amazon order?
