What a day! Got up feeling a bit fuzzy after having stayed up way too late with Joe sampling his lovely Spanish wine collection… so at 9.30 this morning I found myself flying out the door with wet hair and in a state of semi-panic thinking I’d be late for the reason I came here in the first place. As it turned out I caught the bus straight away and just about made it on time (10-ish), and had quite an interesting day meeting other SimonSpeaks experts and learning more about the whole thing. When things finished just after 4pm I invited Florence Expert Nicky to come out with Madrid Expert Annie and me for a drink and a chat, which was quite fun. After that I went in search of an M&S to pick up some food as I had been promising Joe an “az carbonara” since the Hackney Gang was in Seville…

And so had a lovely comfy night at home with Clare & Joe.

A few pics above of stuff I saw and did.

sevilla, sevilla tapas, tapas

Meet my stand-in … Mr Sevilla.

In the past few days I’ve received several requests for tapas tours with three of them asking about tours while I am in London – figures! I thought I would have to say no but then I thought to ask Nog if he would like to try doing a couple of tours. At first he wasn’t sure but we talked it over and I said I would help him organise everything and explained it wouldn’t be any different than when we’ve taken out visiting friends here. And so he’s going to do it! First we thought he would just have one tour taking a couple from London out on Saturday, but then last night I got a confirmation from six lawyers from Liverpool ( ! ) for Friday which should be fun. I’d actually love to be doing these tours myself, but at least now I don’t have to let anyone down and – also very importantly – we will make a bit of extra cash this month. Plus I think this will be good experience for Nog. He’s really turning into quite the Sevilla Expert himself, helping out with my SimonSeeks research, and of course he knows all the tapas bars (and tapas) as well as I do, having been with me since the inception of Sevilla Tapas. And he even sucks the brains out of giant prawns (see above) which is something I’ve never been able to do.

So wish Nog luck this weekend! I know that he’ll do a good job and I suspect he is also going to have a great time. I mean, what better work is there than meeting interesting people and taking them out for tapas and wine?

bodegas ordonez, Malaga, vineyards, wine

Had a great time yesterday. Went out to the bodega late morning and I got a bit of work done there while Victoria took care of some business. Then we went through photos together, made a video, talked about her upcoming work & travel schedule and, after a quick lunch at a small bar around the corner, came back to the bodega to work a bit more. Later on two wine distributors showed up for their tour of the vineyards, so off we went. Got back to the bodega a couple of hours later, hung out some more doing this and that until Victoria drove me back into town. Finally got home around 10.30, tired but very pleased with all we got done. After a nice shower I put on comfy clothes, made a snack, and sat on the sofa watching a DVD (and my favourite port view). It felt good.

This is a view of the vineyards (Granada is just behind that big moutain on the right). There’ll be more pics and info about the harvest and wine pressing later on… I’ve got so much new material to work with that it’ll take awhile to sort it all out. And I’ll have another meeting with Victoria in town one morning this week to review a few things. Did I say how much I love this job?

Back on holiday today.  🙂

Malaga, spain, summer

Going to Málaga sometimes feel like I’m carrying on a love affair with another city. What if Sevilla finds out? I’d really hate to have to choose between them. Honestly, nobody was more surprised than me when Málaga stole a piece of my heart last summer. Up until then I had never considered living anywhere else but in my beloved Sevilla, but I suddenly found myself checking out areas of town that felt like “home” in the same way that my street in Sevilla does. I came to the conclusion that I couldn’t decide between beachfront or city centre, so just as well that this isn’t a decision I’ll have to make anytime soon, especially if I can keep having occasional visits like this week coming up…

Malaga, victoria ordonez, wines

Quite a full day yesterday, what with getting Loki fixed in the morning (and a haircut for me!), followed by an afternoon here with Victoria working on some social media stuff and then an evening of wine tasting. Victoria was in town for a meeting with her wine distributor and came over here afterwards. We even tried making a few short videos and zoomer will be pleased to know that this has inspired me to try editing again … we shall see. Later on we made stops at two of my favourite places – La Azotea and Puracepa. I’d previously talked to them about Victoria’s wines and they were keen to meet her and have a tasting.

We got to La Azotea a bit late and it was quite full, so Juan & Jeanine couldn’t spend much time with us, but we opened the bottles, had a few tapas to pair with each wine, and left the rest for them to sample at a more convenient time. At Puracepa we did the same but Felipo was a bit more available because, although the place was quite full when we arrived, it soon thinned out and once again we opened the wines and ordered some food to go with them. Manolo (of Málaga apartment fame) joined us there and somehow we ended up closing the joint.

We had a great time and Victoria mentioned that she might like to do this about once a month because connecting with present and prospective clients on a personal level like this is something she’s very interested in. And well, I am quite happy to source two suitable bars/restaurants, as not every place would carry such exquisite wines. And now that we’ve had a trial run I know I would be able to organise the next wine tasting day much better.

Click on the wine bottles above to find out more about them. And if you have ever tried any of them, please leave your own comment/review (it’s a new thing we’re trying out).

I love this job!  🙂
