Wow… 13 years! Who knew I’d still be writing this silly blog, or even still be here, for so long.
We’ve sure been through a lot together, haven’t we? 4689 posts, as well as over 30,000 comments and 800,000 visits.

I met the lovely Ania @ania_marchlik a few years ago in Las Teresas, and so it seemed fitting that while we were out celebrating her 10th Anniversary of living in Sevilla that we would end up there. Though we started off the day’s celebrations revisiting another spot with fond memories for both of us – the Corral de Conde – a “patio de vecinos” where Ania and her friend María once hosted a Peirogy Party in the fabulous courtyeard there. Then we stopped off at another of Ania’s favourite places, Taberna Quitapenas, before heading for a sumptuous lunch across the street at La Quinta.

It was after lunch that we found ourselves at Las Teresas, sitting at the very spot where we first met. We had a nice chat with Rafael, enjoyed some of his perfectly sliced jamón and then, as so often happens, we ended up at The Office (AKA La Azotea) for a Penúltima.

Ania has gone from acquaintance to work colleague (she is also part of my fab We Love Tapas team) to cherished friend. I can always count on her honesty and discretion and, besides that, we always have so much fun together. So happy we met.

… at 8.00 pm to be exact, I arrived in Sevilla after a long hot drive from Salamanca (with two cats in tow) and the rest, as they say, is history. So today, after taking care of the usual morning work stuff, I met up with my friend Jeanine (we’ve been trying to have lunch together SINCE JUNE) to celebrate. As always with Jeanine we both start talking at once and don’t stop until it’s time to go home again. I love this feisty smart lady, and enjoy spending time with her whenever I can. So I am very happy that we got together for my anniversary. Hasta soon! xx

The end of January seemed a fitting time to celebrate the We Love Tapas first anniversary. Not just because we first started training last January, but because we also finally found a date that we were all able to get together! Originally we were going to spend the day in Jerez, but those plans got postponed and so we decided to take a day trip to Triana. 🙂
For those of you who don’t know, Triana is just across the bridge and is actually a barrio of Sevilla (unless you are a Trianero, in which case it is an independent republic 😉 ). Anyhow, we had a great time. After visiting the market and ceramics museum we stopped at a few tapas bars before making our way back to the city centre for dessert and cava.
Although we have monthly meetings and other training sessions, it was fun to get together just for, well, fun. Nothing quite like bonding while drunkenly singing American Pie with dessert spoon “microphones”! We actually have quite a few activities lined up over the next few months that we are all looking forward to. And, as always, I feel so lucky to have these amazing women on my team. Thanks for a great day, chicas! xx

… I arrived in Sevilla with a car full of cats (Lua & baby Sunny) and all my worldly possessions. A friend had driven me down from Salamanca, where I’d spent my first year-and-a-bit in Spain. A couple of weeks previously I’d come down to Sevilla to look for an apartment and found this little top floor studio in Mateos Gago, which I couldn’t afford but by some miracle the landlord let me take it without a deposit, so I reckoned it was fate. Looking back I have no idea how I thought I would “make it” here, showing up with no money and no work, and there were indeed some very tough times. But I’m not one to give up on the things I love and Sevilla was, and continutes to be, one of those things.
Just like last year, I will be spending my anniversary working. I have a meeting this morning with the tourism-marketing people at El Corte Inglés, then a lunchtime Sevilla Tapas Tour. And this evening I’ve been invited for cocktails at the opening of a new bar. They say you should never look back, but sometimes it’s good to cast an occasional glance pastwards, in order to see how far you’ve come. Twenty two years ago I couldn’t have dreamed that I would end up so happy with my work, and my life here. It’s going to be a good day. 🙂
