While I was at Finca Buenvino I also picked up my very own (signed!!) copy of their wonderful cookbook. An unpretentious gem of a book, you will fall in love not only with the homespun recipes, but also with the history behind this beautiful guest house and its charming and welcoming hosts.

You can get yours here…

Got a surprise delivery today – my own SIGNED copy of José Pizarro’s new cookbook! I’m so excited. This was so unexpected but also just the sort of thing José would do. You may remember when he came to town last May with his team to do research for this book, and I took them around to some of my favourite traditional bars. I was thrilled to see at the Spanish Embassy party last week that not only was I given a mention in the acknowledgements, but there was also a photo of us from our day out. And now I have my own copy!

It’s a gorgeous book and I can’t wait to try out the recipes. Publishing date is May 30th but you can pre-order it here from Amazon. Happy cooking!

I blame my iPhone. Used to be that I would polish off at least a book a week, but ever since I got Pippin that number has dwindled to an embarrassing handful a year (!). Which is why it’s taken me a couple of weeks to get around to enjoying Kerstin Rodger’s Supper Club.

You may recall that Kerstin (aka @MsMarmitelover) visited Sevilla awhile back and was my houseguest for a fun & food filled weekend. Well, she also very generously risked going over her RyanAir baggage weight allowance and brought me a copy her fabulous book Supper Club – my own signed copy!

And it is truly a delightful read.

Sandwiched between an extremely useful step-by-step section on how to start up your own underground restaurant and a fun collection of themed dinner ideas are lots and lots of scrumptious recipes with beautiful photos. Being pretty much vegetarian (the occasional bit of fish is becoming even more occasional) Kerstin invited other “secret supper” chefs to share their favourite meat dishes. It’s a book full of heart and humour and I can’t wait to try out some of the recipes. I am also now extremely envious of all those people on Twitter talking about what an amazing time they had at this or that Supper Club evening…

These are all the cookbooks I have ever owned in my life. And three of them came to me as gifts in the past month! Weird. That old beat up Joy of Cooking I’ve had since I was maybe 18 years old. Which was also when I started my own handwritten cookbook of favourite things I came across … and then more than fifteen years of personal selections were lost when that book went missing somewhere between Toronto and Europe. Damn! The Joy of Cooking made it though, for reasons that escape me – I would have much preferred to have the book I’d written. And then on my first birthday in Seville I was given Cooking in Spain by Janet Mendel, which became my bible for Spanish cooking.

Fast forward to March 2010 …

Shortly after moving to Seville (in 1993) I was given a copy of Janet Mendel’s Cooking In Spain as a birthday present. And it turned out to be one of the best presents I have ever received (along with my iPhone) because I have used it so much over the years and have also recommended it to others more times than I can remember.

Then last month a Twitter friend got in touch with me to ask for a bit of help with a project she was working on, and I was happy to do so. As a thank you gift Michelle sent me this latest book by Janet Mendel, for which she had done the photography. And all I can say is … wow! It’s not only a fabulous cookbook but also a real visual treat. Check it out if you are interested in Spanish cooking.
