How about you?

coronavirus, covid-19, lockdown, sevilla

It’s been exactly six months since lockdown began. Well, some say it was officially declared on the 16th of March, but in fact by Saturday the 14th here schools, offices, shops, bars and restaurants had all been ordered to shut and people were told to stay at home. As with, I think, all of us, it took a while for it all to sink in. What it would mean to us, our lives, the world. I remember the “good ol’ days” when my main concern, chatting with friends, was that all my tapas tours for the spring had been cancelled and I was going to lose the high season trade. Back then everyone was sure this would all be over by summertime. Ha.

Has anyone tried these? Yet another “discovery” made while scrolling through Twitter in the wee hours. The face bracket! Apparently it makes mask-wearing much more comfortable, giving you more space to breath. Washable and reusable. I’ve looked at a few on Amazon and the silicon ones seem best, five in a package for about 12 euros. Might give them a go, especially for my long river walks, unless someone tells me they’ve tried them and they’re crap.  🙂

adiós elbow bump

According to the WHO, people should stop using the elbow bump greeting and switch to the more distancing-friendly hand on heart gesture. What do you think? I guess it makes sense because even though bumping elbows cuts down on direct contact transference of the virus, it still brings you closer than 1 metre and those pesky droplets. Though to be honest, most people I see don’t really pay much attention to this when amongst friends. Me? I’m still skittish around pretty much everybody.

I actually think the hand on heart gesture is quite elegant and hope it catches on. And when you are extra happy to see someone you can put both hands on your heart, which is something I find I do spontaneously at times already. ❤️

bread baskets of death…

For the most part the tapas bars and restaurants I have been to over the past couple of months have been doing their best with taking precautions and keeping their establishments as safe as possible for both staff and clients. But you know, nobody’s perfect and also, as time passes, people tend to slack off a bit. Even as a second wave looms (reported cases and deaths keep mounting) some people are still in denial. Not me though! I am not only at a higher risk of catching this fucker due to previous cancer and chemo, but with my age, etc, I am also not likely to survive it. So yeah, you could say I have a vested interest in how the public is behaving in terms of the pandemic.

The other day I posted this photo of stacked up bread baskets on my Instagram. Some of you may remember that this disgusting practice has always been, well, disgusting to me. I mean, the baskets (filled with bread and often also napkins and cutlery) are put on tables, placed on chairs, passed from person to person, then taken away, stacked up, NEVER CLEANED, and then reused. In some cases, even the uneaten bread is “recycled” (yes, I have seen this happen with my own eyes). And while it was always an unsanitary and disgusting practice before COVID, now it’s actually criminal.
