malaga 2013-001Here I go again! After a crazy three months of work-work-work it’s looking like December (and probably January) are going to be a bit slow. So I’m going to “sign off” for two months and work on setting up my other projects, which I hope will be ready to go by the time the spring season arrives.

And so of course now I have to go to Málaga! One: because I’m not working much other than on my projects (and I will take my laptop with me). Two: because I want to visit my friends there. Three: because I really really really *miss* Málaga like an ache in my heart. So what the heck.

I’m also going to have a totally new Málaga experience this time by staying in a hotel (!!!). Which means I can’t take Morcilla with me, but even my friend Victor said that three nights wasn’t worth disrupting her life for. Which of course is true. I know that Morcilla will be fine now hanging out with Loki and Luna, with Peter to look after them all. But what about ME??? So far I’ve only spent two nights away from my little girl, which was hard enough…

But yes, it’s exciting to think that tomorrow I’ll be getting on the train to Málaga yet again. Gosh I love that place. And kind of on the heels of my weekend getaway to Cádiz, I think this mid-week jaunt will be just what I need right now. A bit of a “disconnect”, but also some just hang around with myself time. I’ll have a book or two with me, laptop and iPad (so no, won’t be “disconnected” in that way). I guess I mean just having a change from my usual routine to see how I feel doing something completely different in a different place. Which is why the hotel option will also be interesting, though that was just chance as I got a great deal from a very cool hotel in the new hip part of town. I think it’s gonna be great! My Christmas Holiday.

frizz ballGot my hair cut today in the usual fashion, as in I woke up and went NEED HAIR CUT NOW! Last time I did this was during my July holiday in Málaga and went to a place there that was recommended by my friend Annie.

As is usually the case, I leave the hairdresser’s with a lovely sleek chin-length bob which lasts for maybe half an hour or so, depending on heat and humidity.

In Málaga it’s even more humid than here and one morning after my haircut I took this pic to prove once and (for all who wonder why I always slick back my HAIR) that it is not a Good Idea for me to let said HAIR do what it wants. Because it does this…

last night malaga
Yesterday I realised I still hadn’t made it down to the beach (!!!) so last night I took a walk over to Pedregalejo, the old fisherman’s village, for a final meal by the sea. And it was a gorgeous evening. It was a delightful 45-minute seaside walk from the centre, during which the sun rather spendidly went down. I also saw tons of frolicking kittehs on a rocky stretch of the walk, passed the new controversial chiringuitos (beach bars) recently put up by the city council, and even saw a bride and groom photo shoot that had them both frolicking in the waves… weird.

I couldn’t decide whether to go to my favourite family-run fish restaurant Andrés Maricuchi or go back to the newly opened Pez Tomillo (actually owned by Sevillano chef Ernesto Malasaña) so in the end I went to both. Had some fabulously crispy lemon boquerones at Maricuchi with a couple of glasses of Botani, then had a small tapa of stewed oxtail with potato purée at Pez Tomillo. And more wine. After which I stumbled to a taxi stand and was happily tucked up in bed with Morcilla by midnight. Nice ending to another wonderful holiday in Málaga.

Now back home catching up on emails and other work, plus sorting through photos. I think it’ll take me at least a week to do all my updates. Oh, and there are tapas tours booked. Lots and lots of them!

malaga tuesday
Woke up this morning with a very cuddly Morcilla purring all over the place. I think she misses her playmates a bit and has become a bit clingy here, so I’m giving her lots of extra attention. Then while I was having coffee and having a look online I got a message from twitter pal David @IrlandesnMalaga about maybe meeting up today, something we never managed to do the last time I was here. And it was looking like we might not manage it this time as David kept suggesting early morning coffee somewhere since he is busy in the afternoons but – you know – I’m on holiday! And my lazy slow mornings are so lovely…

Finally David reorganised his schedule so we could meet at noon for a “quick beer” and a chat, which ended up stretching out for almost four hours and included a walk over to the market for some seafood at Cafe-Bar Atarazanas after we’d had some snacks at my “local” bar Los Gatos. David brought along his rescue pup Nina, who is such a sweetie. Her background is a sad one, first with an abusive owner, then spending two years at a shelter, before David took her home. And you can tell she is well-loved and happy now, lucky girl.

Anyhow, David and I were trying to figure out when we first met and turns out it was three years ago, one of the times I was here doing some work for the Málaga winery. Three years! So we had a nice time catching up and sharing all our news. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Twitter? I mean, yesterday I’d stopped in at Los Gatos for a quick beer before lunch and suddenly got a tweet from Mark & Jo saying they were in town shopping and that I should stay put – five minutes later they met me for a quick drink and visit before they had to head home to Estepa! And most of this week will also be filled with going out with friends I mostly met on Twitter. Nice.

Now I think I’ll take an evening stroll and stop for a tapita somewhere. It’s supposed to get all stormy here this week so I want to get out as much as possible while the lovely warm (but not too hot) weather holds.

What did you do today?
