So this was lovely! Got a surprise Christmas care package this evening from my friends Anne & Paul in Jerez. Anne had heard my plea for mince pies a while back (a situation somewhat alleviated by my first panettone). But I am happy to have festive breakfasts until the New Year. Anyhow, as you can see there are some Walkers mince pies, what looks like it might be Anne’s famous Christmas cake wrapped in foil, a jar of homemade kumquat, vanilla and cream sherry marmalade and I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S IN THE BOX. Oh, and there was also a copy of the November Decanter (with my Málaga article). Plus a pretty card and it all looks even extra festive with a background of my Mallorca wines (which I still haven’t opened – just don’t know where to start!).
Thank you Anne and Paul! What a lovely Christmas surprise. We’ll have to have a zoom drink with Tomoko over the holidays. xx

The Christmas Craft Market opened this week in Plaza Nueva and I took a stroll through this afternoon. There was good social distancing with cordoned off areas for people to wait and plenty of hand sanitiser available. I noticed quite a few new artists this time, as well as several familiar ones. Last year I was sent on a mission by my Canadian friend Pam to find a replacement for a hand-painted silk scarf she’d bought here that had gone missing, and so I stopped by Entresedas to say hello. I saw that they are now making silk masks and they were so gorgeous I sent a photo to Pam, who asked me to send her a couple and to get one for myself (her treat) while I was at it. So I’ll probably do that last week. Yay! My first “dress mask”.
If you’re in Sevilla, the market is open until January 5th. It’s a great way to support local artisans and also find some lovely unique Christmas presents.

It’s that time of year when we (hopefully) get enough rain throughout the winter months to see us through the long hot dry spell that is May to October in Sevilla. Trust me, drought summers here are not fun. But this makes going out even trickier (for me) at the moment as I am still limiting myself to once or twice a week and so NOW those days also have to fall on a non-rainy one. But this day was perfect. Lovely and sunny and still warm enough midday to only need a light jacket and the oranges are reaching their peak. Love Sevilla ❤

Most of you have “met” my lovely friend Esteban of @vermuteriasyosoytupadre fame here on the blog. So I thought I would put this up for those of you residing in Spain who either love vermouth or would like to try some for the first time this Christmas. Esteban has invoked the wine gods with this limited edition bottling of his white and red vermouths, made from a base of sherry wines (finos and manzanillas pasadas) and his family recipe of herbs and botanicals. It would make a great Christmas present, even if it’s just for you. Contact info is in the photo below.
