ginger gourmandLast week while Anna @annalibera was here I also had a long-awaited visit from Naomi @gingergourmand and her husband Andrew @andrewknill. Naomi and I have been Twitter pals for years, so I was very excited when I found out they were coming to Sevilla to celebrate Andrew’s birthday. The night they arrived Anna and I crashed their first meal at Eslava and then we dragged them over to La Pepona because, well, Anna ALWAYS has to go to La Pepona. It’s a beard thing ;). Next day I met up with Naomi & Andrew in the evening for a spontaneous “gourmet tapas tour”, which took us to a few of my fave places. Usually I like to mix things up a bit, but that night we ended up at favourite traditional bars since N & A had already visited a few trendier places. It was lovely.

The cool thing about all the Twitter pals I’ve met over the years is that not only do we have a love of travel, food & wine in common, but usually we’ve been in touch for ages, and know a lot of the same people (either virtually or in person). So when we do finally get to meet up it’s like we’ve known each other for ages. Especially because ALL of us post photos of what we’ve had for lunch. πŸ˜›

anna libera

Awhile back my friend Anna @annalibera (@thekilomeaters) requested a night on my sofa bed as she was just doing a quick overnight here in Sevilla to pick up kids and head back to Galicia. So hey, no problem. Though it must be said that it is only a select few for whom “mi casa es tu casa” applies. Mostly because I don’t have a spare room and – more importantly (for me) – an extra bathroom. But one night is one night, right?

It ended up being a wonderful visit. Though the day had got off to a rocky start when I received a message from clients waiting for me at the market to start our tour… the one that I had in my calendar for the following morning!!! So… PANIC. I quick-showered and raced over to the meeting point only to find four lovely Aussies totally relaxed and not concerned at all about the slight delay. Phew! And we had a great time, even going over-time because we were enjoying it all so much. So I got home with just enough time for a second proper shower and quick tidy up before Anna arrived at 4pm.

After a late snacky lunch we went out to do a bit of shopping, then a quick cold beer stop before meeting up with Twitter pals Naomi @gingergourmand and Andrew @andrewknill for tapas (more on them later!). We finally rolled home sometime after midnight and drunkenly made up the sofa bed with curious cats all around us. Luckily Anna is a cat person, as you can see, so she wasn’t concerned about random cats sleeping on her head.Β  I just love those pics of her with Loki. Two gingers. Which I know is going to make Deb very jealous. Sorry Deb…

sevilla photo shoot

I take hundreds of photos every week, and sometimes many more, especially when I travel. A lot of them aren’t worth keeping, but after I sift through my new pics, edit and file them, I just never get around to deleting all the other stuff from the original files. Just like I never get around to doing most of the online stuff I’m supposed to be doing (supposed to be doing? who said so? erm, me…).

So I am always chasing my tail. With thousands upon thousands of photos in my computer it gets very frustrating… I mean, I just KNOW I have a great shot of fill-in-the-blank to put in my blog, or website, or article I’m being paid to write. But find it? Half the time it’s easier just to go out and take the damn photo again (providing it was taken in Sevilla). I suppose if I took an entire week (or two) and dedicated it solely to sifting through my pics and properly editing/organising/deleting them I may actually reap from what I’ve sewn over the years. But that’s not going to happen. I go cross-eyed just thinking about it. And so the only obvious solution is… TAKE MORE PHOTOS!

Which is what I did today. A rare “day off”. Which usually means I end up working longer and harder than on a “work day”, which actually means there is really no difference between the two. Except “day off” work days mean I don’t have to be anywhere at any particular time, or be with people unless I choose to. This morning flatmate Peter was grumbling about not having photos for a blog post he was writing, and I had a few ideas scribbled down about things I wanted to photograph, so we decided to spend the day (or at lease the earlier and cooler part of it) going out on a Sevilla Photo Shoot. And it was fun. We both made lists of things we needed photos for, worked out a route, and headed out. I like to think it was a positive step in the right direction, but coming home again with even MORE photos, I knew it was at best just one small step towards a much better system, which is yet to be determined.

Fun day though. Lots of walking, revisiting favourite haunts, with refreshment pitstops along the way. And now I am editing today’s pics and wondering if I really should spend an entire week of my life ELIMINATING all the ones I know I never want to look at again (but which make it impossible to find the ones I really want). Every now and then, searching for something special that I know has to be *somewhere*, I come across gems I’d totally forgotten about. Is that worth dedicating a week for? I’m still not sure.

early evening stroll

My old ‘hood had me passing by the Cathedral and Giralda tower all the time. Now I get this. Luckily my tapas tours also take me past the Cathedral so I end up getting both.

This made me laugh. Yep, we’ll take shade here in Sevilla anytime, anyhow.
Won’t be drinking that shandy though…
