This week I met up with Nell and Elena – my fab We Love Tapas team – for a Sherry Class at Casa Morales. They were interested in learning more about sherry and I was more than happy to oblige. So we spent a delicious couple of hours tasting five sherries perfectly paired with tapas and it was such a pleasure to have two such enthusiastic students. Team 2023 is turning out to be the best one yet.

Lots of changes going on within the Sherry Council (Consejo Regulador) including the expansion of what we have always known as the Sherry Triangle, that area of land bordered by Jerez, Sanlúcar de Barrameda and El Puerto de Santa María which, until now, was the only place that sherry wines could be officially produced, aged and bottled. The new expansion includes six more towns: Lebrija, Trebujena, Chipiona, Rota, Chiclana and San José de Valle, which is good news for the producers, but it does leave us with a bit of a quandary as to how to refer to the region now. The sherry anvil?

This year I have two fabulous sherry tastings on offer for Sherry Week (November 7-13th). A lunchtime Sherry & Tapas tasting at my beloved Casa Morales. And new this year is a gorgeous gourmet tasting option at chic Restaurante Zelai featuring wines by Bodegas Lustau that is available late afternoons. Spread the word!

My new Azahar Sevilla Sherry Tasting is live! I’m very excited about this new venture I have created with Restaurante Zelai (omg their food pairings!) and I am looking forward to hosting lots of events. It’s kind of a “big sister” tasting that complements my more casual Sherry & Tapas Tasting at Casa Morales.
Perfect for people wanting a more epicurean experience we are offering wines from top sherry house Bodegas Lustau paired with exquisite gourmet bites. We can also accommodate larger groups at Zelai and it’s a more private experience. I love both of these tasting options and feel happy that I can now offer another way for people to learn about sherry. Wish me luck!

So this came about with a bit of luck and happenstance (and a lot of work on my part!). Back in April I was contacted by two guys in London who were planning a stag weekend in Sevilla for their friend BUT they assured me they were cultured serious people who loved good food and wine and were hoping I could provide them with a “classy stag evening”. To be honest I had shut down at the word “stag” since I do not do that sort of thing but then they won me over, especially after one of the guys told me “and we like to read!”. There would be ten of them. What could I come up with?
First of all, I don’t do groups of ten. I seldom even reach my limit of six. Usually I take out 2-4 people at a time because that’s how I like it and that’s also how I think my guests will have the best experience. But this wasn’t a food and wine tour… it was a challenge. What could I offer ten cultured and well-read wine lovers? In the end I think what I put together was quite amazing. And it turned out that the guys were all amazing too.
