What a delightful well-written and superbly-acted series. Created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi (there is a definite Waititi vibe happening) it is now in its second season with, hopefully, more to come. I just happened upon it last week when a Twitter pal mentioned that EVERYONE should watch this, and so I did. Well, the first season. Taking a short break in between just to extend the experience. What are you guys watching this summer?

So good! I have never read the comics and so had no knowledge of the story or any of the characters, but it turns out it stands alone quite well. Just one piece of advice… the first episode is so full of everything that you really have to pay attention so that the following episodes make sense. I ended up watching it twice. Anyhow, it’s not often a series sweeps me up like this. Great fun, excellent writing and a stellar cast.
My only disappointment was that Despair is portrayed as an overweight woman with stringy hair in a tattered cardigan. I mean, really? The only thing missing was a dozen cats. Other than that… loved it.

So… uh oh!… last night I signed up for a month free trial thingy with HBO. I already get to see some HBO series with my Movistar package (for example, Game of Thrones) but I was particularly interested in seeing Chernobyl, which everyone is raving about. So I signed up. No problem, one month and I’m outta there, right?
Or will I be??
My first thought after perusing the series and films on offer was that I should have done this in July or August, when I’d have more free time. There is just so much good shit there! Aside from Chernobyl I also have Killing Eve, Handmade’s Tale, Big Little Lies and the Deadwood movie lined up. And looking back, there always has been great shit there (The Wire, Sopranos, even SATC). So now what? Should I swap Netflix for HBO? Help?

When I bought my first ever Smart TV three years ago, I actually wasn’t that smart about how smart a Smart TV was supposed to be. At the time I was mostly keen on having the (then) novel option of having a television with WIFI and found one on sale that seemed to fit the bill. And it did, although once I got it home I regretted not opting for a bigger screen. I went from 32 to 39, which wasn’t really that much bigger. But it was fine, and I was happy with it, until about a year or so ago when I started having problems with the sound. It just suddenly stopped. Then would start up again. Then stop again. And that has basically been the situation for about a year and a half. I never know when I turn on my TV if I will have sound, or how long it will take to “click in” again.
Since this problem happened outside the two-year warranty, well, it was either pay to see if it could be fixed, then hope it would be fixed, or just wait it out to see if it would fix itself. I’ve been opting for the latter, but it’s just getting on my nerves already. Also, I’m pretty sure that the day will come when the sound doesn’t ever magically come on again… and I don’t want that day to be when I can’t get a good deal and end up buying something in a fit of desperation.
I know… I can watch TV on my laptop, except… nah.
So anyhow… just ordered this baby online and a couple of hefty guys should be delivering it soon. 50 inch, new this year (2018) and fully whatevered. You can see that I have been studying all this tech shit carefully…

I so often come to these things late in the game. Like when I first saw Sex and the City while on chemo in 2008 (long after the series had ended) as back then it was being shown here every morning at 9.30 and it was an easy hour – 2 episodes a day – to mindlessly switch off.
There are other examples that escape me at the moment, but the most recent one is the Big Bang Theory. I mean, I’d heard of it (though I hadn’t realized it is still in production with series 11!). I happened upon it because I had happened upon another new series called Young Sheldon and found it amusing. Then the penny dropped and I checked out BBT. I can’t remember when I started with it but somehow I have actually got through the first 10 series (!!!) and am now watching it “in real time”.
It’s also proved useful for work. The other night I was out with a family, parents with their two teenage kids, and at one point the girl was talking about how organized she likes to be. And I said… “so do you mean SHELDON organized or just normal organized?” and I think scored some points. Couldn’t have done that a few months ago. 🙂
