Got a bit sidetracked on my way to see the Procesión Fluvial of the Virgen del Carmen… by these guys! I mean. They were just asking for it standing outside the FIVE STAR Hotel Mélia Colón at the end of my street. Later I posted it on Twitter and pal Sarah did a great take on this, making it timeless…

This guy…. Timeless, could be 1840, 1950 or today (well perhaps except the stripes on the window but you know what I mean!) pic.twitter.com/qblMRneMO3

santa ana 2023

The Velá de Santa Ana officially starts tomorrow but tonight the Virgen del Carmen sets out on a short excursion down the river before making her way – back on land – to her home. And in almost 30 years in Sevilla (anniversary coming up in September) I have never witnessed this. Well folks, tonight is the night. Stay tuned…

cosori story

So last week I was cooking some salmon in my hitherto trusty Cosori air fryer and suddenly, just after transferring the HOT basket over to the counter top, the handle fell off. The screws were still intact but the plastic around them had basically melted away. Yikes. The next day I got in touch with Cosori and they said they would send me a replacement basket. But then I got to thinking… the basket wasn’t the problem. The problem was that the appliance had overheated to the point that if actually fucking melted the handle. I mean, would you feel comfortable plugging that thing in again? I certainly wasn’t.

Thus began a week of emails back and forth. The first email address I’d found was for a service department that said they would send a new basket (which they did yesterday). But when I mentioned my concerns about the overheating they said it wasn’t an issue, in spite of Cosori recently having to recall more than 2 million models due to overheating and fire hazard issues, since this only applied to models in the US, Canada and Mexico. Somehow that didn’t make me feel any better. I still wasn’t going to plug the motherfucker back in again.

Meanwhile I had also written to a second support email address I’d come across and they seemed a bit more helpful. In the end they agreed that I could send my appliance back to them “for inspection” and if it was indeed defective they would send me a new one. I was warned that it would have to be well packed up as they wouldn’t be responsible for any damage during shipping. And well ha. I still had the original box upstairs in the storage room (I keep them all) including all the styrofoam packing stuff and so, snug as a bug, I brought my hitherto much loved Cosori to the UPS pick up place (handily just around the corner from my house).

And now, who knows? But if I don’t get a shiny new Cosori delivered within the week I’m going to go all social media on those guys. What I don’t get is… why did they even bother trying to get out of sending me a replacement air fryer? I see that on Amazon this model is on sale for 118€ right now, so how much does one actually cost them? And is it even worth them paying for the shipping to Madrid “for inspection”? It’s boggling and frustrating. I just want my air fryer back.

better together

meeting july 17 (2)Julio, me, Lola, María, Ignacio & Baptiste

Yesterday my new Academy and my new Association got together and it was fabulous. I say “my” but of course in the sense of proudly belonging to both now. This is teamwork at its finest. All of us working towards common shared goals without personal interests getting in the way, other than that I think for most of us the goals also feel personal as we have lived them for so long.

Anyhow, for years I’ve felt so alone doing this, being a one-woman (non-Spanish) Spanish gastronomy ambassador however I could, but now… I got these guys! And it’s great. Just sitting around a table, talking about ideas, sharing opinions – and not always agreeing but that’s okay. That’s called debate and a time to learn something. The Academy and Association overlap in many ways, though we also have separate goals, but we are very complimentary and it really is better together.

Can’t wait to see what happens next. Watch this space!

fishy

Step one in dietary tweaks before seeing the nutritionist/endocrinologist in a couple of weeks… starting with a daily dose of omega-3 cold fish oil. There are some other tweaks going on of course, poco á poco, but this is one of the easy ones. Anyone out there taking this too?
