Today is Nog’s first day at the English day camp.
I swear, it’s not something I could ever do but clearly Nog is a much braver soul than I am. Also, his regular classes are now over until September (I’ll still be working part time in July and August) so needs must and all that.
Apparently he’s in charge of two groups of 9-13 year olds (yikes!). He gives a two-hour class (eep!) to each group and in between they have a snack and go for a swim. Well, the kids swim while the teachers race between the two private ‘nautical’ clubs (about ten minutes apart) to teach their second group, after they’ve handed out the morning snack.
I just got a text message from Nog saying things are going well so far, just the second class to get through now.
And I have been busily doing ‘housewifey’ stuff all morning, specifically preparing all kinds of Nog’s favourite foods so he can have whatever his brave heart desires for lunch when he gets back (around 3pm).
Wish him luck everybody!
I think it’s gonna be a l-o-n-g month. . .

Found this DVD today over at Fnac . . .
For just 5.95€ we will be able to blast to the past and relive Woodstock. Well, it seemed like a good idea at the time. Will let you know how it goes (after I get the flowers out of my hair).

So what are you doing this summer?
Now that summer is officially here (yes, I know I’m a few days late). Any trips planned? Special events or projects?
My ‘summer holiday’ was Lisbon … don’t think Nog and I will be travelling anywhere else for awhile, though we might take a day trip or two between now and September.
I’m planning to take advantage of there being next to nobody at the gym so I can use the fitness room as much as I want to in the mornings. I also want to do some sewing and think about a silk collection for the clothing biz. Otherwise and that, I want to read a lot and go out more at night when it’s coolish. Oh, and also paint the hallways … the whole flat could do with repainting but the hallways are especially needy.
Since I’ll have next to no work (and next to no income) it’ll be all about how to best spend my time without spending money, and feeling rested and satisfied when the ‘new year’ rolls round again. And so I’m looking for a little inspiration.

Yeah I know … it’s a bit early.
We’re not leaving until tomorrow but I’m not exactly a ‘seasoned traveller’ – the sort of person who can toss a few things into a bag and be out the door in half an hour. In fact, going to Barcelona earlier this year – and now Lisbon – is a personal record (even with them being short trips of 3-4 nights away). So it takes me awhile to get organised so I don’t get all panicky at the last minute.
Anyhow, the five-day weather forecast looks promising, though it looks like the temperatures are going to drop quite a bit on Friday. So not sure about clothes. But most of the other stuff has been laid out on the spare room table so we won’t get to the airport and realise the passports are still at home.
One of the girls next door (who happens to be from Lisbon) will be looking after the cats, which is a relief. I’ve given her Maria the vet’s phone number in case of any emergency, but really all Paula has to do is freshen their water bowls once a day and scoop the turds out of the litter boxes. Well, and make sure Sunny doesn’t escape from the living room. They don’t tend to eat much when we’re not around – I reckon they enjoy being fed and fussed over more than actually eating
With all the finger business going on there hasn’t been much ‘build up’ – it’s kind of crept up on us. Even Nog (aka Mr Map) hasn’t got routes planned out for us and lists of places to go. But I think this trip is going to be a lot more relaxed than Barcelona and having an apartment rather than a hotel room will make a big difference. This will be a kind of recharging holiday as when we get back we’ll have quite a lot of ‘big time stuff’ to deal with, so it will be nice to just disconnect for a few days and be in a whole other setting.
Meanwhile, I totally forgot about learning a bit of Portuguese so I’m hoping that Plan B (speaking Spanish as if I were Sean Connery) will do the trick.
Oooh, I’m getting so excited! 🙂
