This is driving me bonkers!

Yesterday Pipocas took me out for a lovely lunch at a new place (well, new for us) called Viniera San Telmo. It had been recommended by someone from the UK who had written to me back in August, thanking me for my tapas blog because he brings people to Sevilla for tapa tours and apparently my site has been very helpful to him. He also told me about some of his favourite places here, one of which is Viniera San Telmo. And so we tried it out and it really was fabulous. Anyhow, over lunch . . .

Now this is my idea of a hospital room!

In fact, probably the only good thing that the private hospital had going for it was that all the rooms there are private, painted a pretty yellow and have an extra bed in case a friend or relative wants to stay with you.

At the general hospital where I ended up there are two patients to a room. My room was pretty basic, but there was a balcony with a nice view and it would have been quite tolerable if my roommates had had better manners. . .

. . . that I first saw this film.

A very charming ‘coming of age’ film about three teenaged girls (played by Julia Roberts, Annabeth Gish & Lili Taylor) in the small town of Mystic, Connecticut. And I had vague memories of really loving this film a lot.

Got to watch it again yesterday as it was being shown on tv on Sunday afternoon . . . and I loved it all over again.

But something really niggled. which I know is one of my pet niggles . . . and that is about how women portrayed in films twenty years ago actually got away with having real women’s bodies. I mean, okay, Mystic Pizza was a small indie low-budget film and not a big-time Hollywood film, otherwise this may not have been the case. But man, there was ole Julia (I think it was her first film role) showing a lot of big sexy butt and voluptuous curves, and Annabeth and Lily also looked like … well, like normal women do when wearing trousers. Like, no three inch gap between their thighs. And all scenes showing any of them in a sleeveless top or dress also showed quite attractive and normal looking upper arms, not pencil-thin sticks protruding out of bony shoulders… it was really refreshing to see this for a change.

Well, refreshing and also sad to think of how things are now. Ah well…

An excellent film – does anyone else remember it?

backing up …

back-up-stress.jpg

. . . in order to move forward.

But gaaaaaa! it’s awful! And yes I know, I know!!! that it’s all my fault for not doing computer backups on a more regular basis. But unlike with cleaning cat ears it seriously is not one of those things where the anticipation is worse than the reality (au contraire). The reality of backing up stuff totally sucks, especially when there is so much to catch up on. I hearby vow to do weekly backups if once I get finished with this lot.

How often do you back up your computer files?

Had to start a new category for this – guess which one.

Why on Earth would anyone use this name for anything at all, let alone an energy drink? Any bets on how long they stay in business without a name change?

Over at the Black Bastard Website you can contact them by email and complain, since this choice of brand name seems to be intentionally racist and not simply an example of a cross cultural marketing blunder.

Wandering further around the blogosphere today I also came across this BBC article about an unfortunate name choice for a restaurant in Mumbai.
