Marzipan nazarenos anyone?

A very passionate young woman from Chicago called Kirby Barth got in touch with me back in January. She is here doing research towards an honours thesis in anthropology, researching traditional Sevillano food. And on Friday we finally arranged a meeting for an interview, including the fabulous Aldara from We Love Tapas, which then morphed into an impromptu Sevilla Tapas tour. For the next four hours! Afterwards Aldara very kindly took Kirby on another impromptu tour of Sevilla Markets, and the next day I met Kirby at a local food & wine event. She will also be going on a We Love Tapas Tour with our lovely Delia on Monday. As always, love sharing knowledge and experience with people who genuinely care. And we hope Kirby fulfils her dream of one day being able to live and work in Sevilla.

Notice token flamenco image in centre of collage ;). But flamenco really was the reason I ended up in Jerez this weekend, with my friend Jo. It turned out Jo was coming down from London for the weekend to take a couple of flamenco dance classes with renowned dancer and choreographer Joaquín Grilo. And as I also had plans to see Sara Baras we decided to make a weekend of it. Every year Jerez hosts this 10-day Festival de Jerez but this is the first time I’ve been. It’s great fun, lots of events going on around the city, which made Jo and I think that maybe next year we’ll come for a whole week.

Out on a tapas tour… suddenly the lights in the bar are switched off, everything goes quiet, and this floats past. Vía Crucis (way of the cross) processions in Sevilla.

The other day a Finnish TV producer called Tony got in touch saying he was going to be in town doing research for a series on Andalusian food, wine and culture and asked if we could meet up. Which of course led to an afternoon Tapeo Extremo, showing Tony, TV chef & presenter Sikke and their friend Eeva around town, and introducing them to several of my favourite bars. And of course they HAD to have a pringá at Bodeguita Romero.
It was an epic afternoon, meeting new friends, lots of walking and talking, and LOTS of sherry too. Looking forward to seeing them again when they come to film in March.
