Don’t you just hate when this happens? It took me years to find a nice light face moisturizer after I discovered Clinique was too “heavy”. Then I happened on this one by Nivea, which was not only perfect for my skin but was also way cheaper. Over the years Nivea has altered the packaging and even the ingredients, but it remained at the same price and just as nice. THEN I saw this today. They have not only swapped “marine minerals” for “magnolia extract” but also changed the size from 75ml to 50ml and – adding insult to injury – are charging MORE. Yet it’s basically the same thing I’ve been buying for about ten years now. WTF?

censorshipI honestly can’t believe this. Came home today after a pleasant afternoon out and about to find a Threatening Email from the lawyers of a tapas bar I reviewed last December on Sevilla Tapas. They cited various laws and infringements before coming out with their DEMAND that I remove all photos and text, and indeed any reference to this bar, from all my blogs, websites and social media accounts. I mean, WTF??

It wasn’t even a scathing review. I basically just said that I’d gone there TWICE and was disappointed both times. And well, they can’t really blame me if their tapas look like crap.

Anyhow, I’ve been threatened with legal action if I don’t comply.

May as well. It’ll save me having to do it later when they close down.

“skinny girl” wines? wtf?

So I came across this today, which I thought was quite vile. A brand called “skinny girl” (bad enough in itself) that is promoting “skinny wine” at – gasp! – 15% fewer calories than a regular glass of wine. WTF?

Apparently this is the brainless-child of someone called Bethenny Franklin, who previously marketed a range of “skinny cocktails”…

This supposed “Food-Health-Lifestyle Guru” appears to be promoting more alcohol consumption with less guilt about getting fat, as none of her wine products are lower in alcohol than other wines, and are only slightly lower in calories. According to this Wine Spectator article, most dry wines are about 100 calories per 5-ounce glass, though may vary up to as high as 120 calories. So what Franklin seems to be marketing is the opportunity of doing the same amount of liver damage with only the tiniest bit less damage to one’s already anorexic figure…


…because who the hell else would care so much about 20 extra calories a glass???

Luna has already shown us that she quite enjoys a nice comfy cat bed, but this didn’t explain why we kept finding her asleep in Azar’s litter box out on my bedroom balcony. Nog suggested that perhaps it was because the sand got warmed up in the afternoon sun, which kind of only made it seem even grosser, though it must be said that this litter box gets very little use. I have it out there for when nobody is home and we separate the cats. Azar gets my room, with his food and water dishes and balcony litter box. Luna is put in the “air lock” hallway that connects to Nog’s room. And Loki has the run of the rest of the house. Which means having three litter boxes! Which I hope will be temporary, or at least that we’ll be able to go back to just having two after Luna has grown enough to fend off the big orange galoot when he gets overly playful.

But this still didn’t explain why Luna kept going out to sleep in Azar’s litter box. Until I put two and two together… that Luna loves being out on the balcony and she likes having a bed to sleep on. So this afternoon I put an old cushion out there and voilà! She suddenly wasn’t interested in the litter box anymore. Cats, eh?

Sled, you’re going to love this one.

My gym has recently opened this new workout room For Women Only, which opens off the shower & changing room. Goodness knows what it was before – storage? nothing? This photo shows about 2/3 of the room – there are three other machines to the left. Apparently users of this facility will be given a half-hour routine which will focus on weight loss and getting in shape (so what are the other two floors of machines for?) and, of course, there will be no big smelly men around. Oh, and it’ll cost an extra 5 euros a month.

Current female members can try out this new facility free of charge until May, so I went upstairs this morning to check it out. It was not only small – and purple and pink! – but it also didn’t have most of the machines I use. I couldn’t imagine it being comfortable when full, which would be about six people. So it looks like I’ll be saving that 5 euros a month.
