old faithful redux

Omg I brought my number one fan Old Faithful down from storage for a cleaning before putting her back to work and the doohickey thingy that the other thingy (on table) screws onto – that holds on the back panel – just fell off. Or better said it just broke off from the motor bit. Dammit. So today I bought some special super-duper glue meant for hard plastic bits and will see if it works. So far it’s holding up but I’ve been told by the instructions that I have to wait for 24 hours FOR BEST RESULTS. Thoughts and prayers please…

grey day

… especially when they are so pretty, and also seriously cut down on the FUCKING HEAT that has arrived  here way too early. Stay tuned folks because the torrential rains all through Semana Santa gave us some breathing space, but if we hit over the top temps super early (like last year) the reservoirs won’t last long. Meanwhile tourists are complaining that they came here for some sun.

missing the point

the point

Much has been written of late about the serious negative impact that over-tourism has on communities and their residents. This decision by Amsterdam to ban new hotels seems like a sensible move and I wish Sevilla and other afflicted cities in Spain would follow suit. And while we rightly blame government and corporate greed for allowing – heck, promoting – this out of control situation its also clear by asshole comments like the one above that we have a lot of work ahead of us if we expect change to happen.

feria forecast

So nah, won’t be going to Feria. I usually like going at least one afternoon to take photos of the horses and the colourful dresses but as one horse has already died from the heat I think it’s not something I want to be a part of. Also there are apparently record crowds this year – yet another local celebration over run and ruined by mass tourism. No thanks.
