And just like that the most boring blog on the internets turns 20! For any newcomers, the reason for so much weird randomness here is that back in my cancer days I started putting up a post a day, no matter what (or what about), to give myself something to achieve, an activity, since I couldn’t do much else. So you might get a long heartfelt post about my treatment or a quiz or something about the cats. And then I kept on (and on) simply because if I stopped for a while then I’d feel like the next post would have to be about something important or even of interest. Also, whenever I want to know when I last bought sheets or went to Barcelona… well it’s all here!
Thanks for sticking around.

My friend Fiona has been lurking around on Substack for a while and this week she finally bit the bullet and published her first article. The subject couldn’t have been more perfect for her as the Duquesa of Alba has been a passion of hers for years. This year she would have turned 100 and there are several activities planned in Sevilla as well as a Netflix documentary (which is really good!). Anyhow, go say hi to Fiona and enjoy her Ode to the Duchess of Alba.

I think I read this book maybe 20 years ago and I remember at the time being quite inspired by it (though now I don’t recall anything specific about it). So now that I am writing more, and more often than not careening back and forth between acute impostor syndrome and looming deadline panic, I was thinking it could be a good time for a re-read. Except now of course I can’t find it anywhere in the house. I find it hard to believe it would have been included in The Great Cull before moving to the present Casa Azahar but if it doesn’t turn up soon I will get another copy. Turns out there is a new 25th anniversary edition, so might be worth updating anyhow. Of course then I will have to re-learn how to read…
