Back at the vet’s today for Round 3 of The Treatment. I’m very sad to say that Loki really doesn’t seem to be doing well. When I took him in on Monday it was almost an afterthought. Since I had to take Morcilla in so the vet could look at the mysterious lump on her head, which I thought was the real emergency, I thought I would take Loki too as he’d been looking a bit low and I didn’t like how my previous vet handled the last blood test he’d had with them, and so this would be a good opportunity for another check-up and blood test. And now I’m not sure if it was too little too late. Today the vet told me that, given Monday’s blood test results, they were very surprised he’d been mostly asymptomatic. No vomiting, no diarrhea, no blood in stools… AND he was still eating and drinking. Now, not so much. He’s gone off his food, mostly looks tired and sad. I don’t even know what to think or feel right now. Next treatment is on Monday.

Anyhow, this afternoon he was hiding out in my bedroom so I brought him out to be on the sofa near me while I work, but he looked so uncomfortable, all hunched up. Then I took out the summer duvet and made a little nest for him… and he went straight in. Bless. He looks much cosier now. My god, this is so hard, wanting to hope, scared to hope… but for now what I CAN do is keep my boy as comfy as possible and let him know how much he is loved.

Don’t ask. Perhaps because of all the sad stress of this week with Loki, or maybe for no reason at all, when I met up with Lucy to try out a new cheese bar (new to me, been here as long as I have – since 1993) we then ended up back at Jaylu to try the amazing jamón selection I’d missed when I was there on my birthday lunch with Peter. Then Lucy said, as she is wont to do, LET’S HAVE SOME FIZZ. Well, I don’t know what I was thinking so when I asked the barman which Cava they had by the glass he told me a couple of names and then I asked if he had any Corpinnat and he said Yes! Recaredo! Well, said I, let’s have that one! You serve it by the glass?? He said not usually but that he’d happily open a bottle for us and we could drink as many, or as few, glasses as we wanted. Ha. Too easy. And no, I didn’t ask the price. He left the bottle in a bucket next to us and said we could help ourselves. I think we all know what happened next.

Anyhoodle… who cares? It was Wednesday after all and Lucy and I realised that this was just a continuation of our Birthday Week. Plus we had a fabulous time hanging out at the bar and chatting with everyone. Much more convivial than sitting in the posh dining room, though that was also lovely when I did it in January. But I think I’ve found my favourite spot at Jaylu. Fabulous place.

cosy loki

So remember last week when I posted about finding a wee lump on Morcilla’s head? Well I decided that as I was going to be put through the whole CAT SCREAMING TAXI RIDE to the vet’s I may as well take Loki in too. Ever since his last check up in May I’ve been concerned because it felt like that vet wasn’t being thorough. In fact, a week after the blood test she called me with the results and said everything looked fine but that they had held back some blood in case I wanted further tests done, specifically for the pancreas, even though Loki was showing no symptoms of pancreatitis. And I thought… whaaat? It felt a bit scammy and even the vet admitted Loki wasn’t presenting for pancreatitis, so I told her I’d wait a bit on that. But I mean, they kept some blood? Is blood even viable for testing after a week? Whatever. I’d actually been losing confidence in this vet for some time so it wasn’t until Morcilla’s lump that I realised I didn’t want to go back there…
