I think this was my fourth Sherry & Tapas Experience with Katie (Bowland & Bay), and I think it is now perfection. Two stops, which I can just about manage, though getting to Las Teresas is the hard part as it’s about a 40 minute walk (for me) and there’s no way of getting there otherwise. But coming home I can take a bus or taxi. Anyhow, it was a lovely group today, as always. And I especially love that Las Teresas now gives me a private room for the “first course” of dry sherries and savoury food. Next up is desserts and sweet sherries at Vineria San Telmo (best desserts in town) a short walk away. I offer this experience for groups of 8-12 as it’s a private experience with booked rooms and, frankly, would love to do it more often. So if you, or anyone you know, is planning a trip here for a sherry curious group, get in touch…

What a great week with two batches of new sherry converts! First up (above) Leigh, Anna, Spike and Alex on a Sherry Tapas Tour (3 bars, lots of sherry, food and fun) and then a Sherry Tapas Tasting (below) with Maria, Steve, Chris, Bert and Pam (shorter version at Casa Morales). Love my job. πŸ‘ΈπŸ»πŸ₯‚

Yep… ANOTHER Sherry Saturday! But unlike last Saturday, this time I was actually working. Back in December 2015 I spent a lovely Christmas Day afternoon with Becky, Scott and family at La Azotea. Since then Becky and I have kept in touch via social media (check her Instagram – @havepaprika) and a few months ago Scott got in touch about booking a Sherry & Tapas Tour for himself and buddy Richard, who would be celebrating his big 5-OH. And today was the day.

Although I love all my tours I have to say that the Sherry & Tapas tour is both my most challenging and possibly most gratifying. On the other hand, I’m not sure I could do them every day because I am always a bit exhausted afterwards… a LOT of talking goes on. But today was fabulous. The boys not only ate and drank very well, they also learned a lot about sherry, so they can now show off to their friends back in London.Β  πŸ˜‰

Great day guys – thank you!

shelly-mike-allen-1You know I love my job, mostly because I’ve been telling you for years now how much I love my job… but I even more especially love my job when I am asked to do sherry & tapas tours. Here are some scenes from last night’s fabulous Sherry & Tapas Tour, which ended up with three new sherry converts.

I think what I love most about these tours is that I am usually taking people from almost zero knowledge about sherry to a totally new and unexpected appreciation of these unique wines. I never tire of watching people’s expressions upon trying something new, be it jamΓ³n or some unusual seafood item, or sherry.

Unfortunately last night’s enjoyment was marred by a copycat food tour that, over the past year, has invaded all the bars I’ve been working with for years. When we showed up at our final stop for desserts and sweet sherries this group was at a table next to us, being exceptionally loud and obnoxious, and the “guide” not in control of the situation at all. I wouldn’t have said anything but my guests actually complained about them, saying how unpleasant it was having them next to us. My feeling is that – hey – there are over 3000 tapas bars in Sevilla. Can’t these people use a bit of imagination and go somewhere else, rather than just copy everywhere I go?
