Yesterday’s Blue 💙 (last chance before Storm Claudia hits) and whatever the fuck this is. Looks like they blew the whole Christmas lights budget on tram toldos. Seriously, at the END of August this year the city council put up street awnings over the Avenida de la ConstituciĂłn (now taken down), costing over 300,000 euros, that only covered the tram line… NOT WHERE THE PEDESTRIANS WALK. Duh. And now we get this sad excuse for Christmas lights, which will probably get blown away over the next few days (we’re on orange alert for wind and storms). Also… spot the willy! 😉

LOVE this year’s poster for the Festival de Cine Europeo de Sevilla. Sevilla-based illustrator JosĂ© Luis Ágreda was inspired by traditional posters for Seville’s spring festivals and incorporated iconography from cult European films, including Sergio Leone’s Dollar Trilogy and the cat from ‘Flow’. The other two Ágreda created for this poster series featured Wim Wenders’ Wings of Desire and Fellini’s La Dolce Vida (and the cat!). I recognised that horse right away as it’s from one of my favourite feria posters from 1934.

There is a lovely sherry bar around the corner from my house and for Sherry Week they were holding a sherry tasting by one of my favourite bodegas, Lustau. How could I resist? So on Friday evening I went with Peter, Sharon and Fiona (aka my angels) and we had a great time tasting four gorgeous dry sherries from Lustau’s Almacenista line:

Enough already. I cannot walk (in the streets) without crutches (since August 2024). And I cannot use an umbrella whilst hobbling along on crutches, for obvious reasons. Last winter (rainy af – yes, much needed but still) made me realise how much this limits me. So… hello polka dot poncho! Not quite a famous blue raincoat but let’s see if this helps.

Jim & Nick at Manolo Cateca

Mexico-based food writer Nick (Nicolas Gilman) and I first met ten years ago in London during a mad whirlwind gastronomic weekend hosted by Jeffrey Merrihue (formerly Foodie Hub now Xtreme Foodies) though we barely remember as there were so many people and so many places. Anyhow, we reconnected this year on Substack and this week he and his partner Jim are in town so we got together for a little sherry and a snack at Manolo Cateca. It was lovely meeting them both and I hope we can get together again before they leave.
